The character of the vampire - a comparative study. Reinterpretation of the motif in selected cultural texts.

Analizowane są atrybuty najczęściej kojarzone z wampirami, do których należą między innymi gotycka architektura i mroczny krajobraz, ale również podkreślany jest ich atrakcyjny wygląd i urok osobisty, którymi mogą zahipnotyzować drugiego człowieka. Przedstawiona jest także transformacja wampira z jego powszechnego pojmowania jako bezwzględnej, przerażającej istoty na postać, która uległa ociepleniu i stała się bardziej złożona oraz ludzka. It analises various attributes most commonly associated with vampires, including gothic architecture and dark landscapes, while also emphasising their attractiveness and charm, often made use of to seduce human beings. The Essay also presents the concept of the vampire's cultural transformation: from commonly referred to as a ruthless and terrifying creature into a much warmer, complex and human entity. Building on that - various interpretations and adaptations of the motif are outlined. The author proposes possible, distinctive traits that can be attributed to the modern character of a bloodsucker as well as why the idea is so interesting to our society.
