Selected elements of Korean symbolic culture from the times of Unified Silla to the end of 2018

Niniejsza praca obejmuje studia czterech wybranych przypadków, analizowanych pod względem występowania wspólnych elementów kultury symbolicznej Korei Południowej i Północnej. W pierwszej części pracy przedstawiono pokrótce definicje kultury, symbolu oraz kultury symbolicznej. W drugiej części pracy opisano główne źródła kultury koreańskiej, tj. mit założycielski Korei, historię powstawania jednego państwa od czasów Zjednoczonego Silla po dynastię Joseon, wpływ filozofii konfucjańskiej na kulturę Korei oraz powstanie i rozwój języka i alfabetu koreańskiego. W trzeciej części pracy przeprowadzono studia czterech wybranych przypadków: flag obu Korei, hymnów państwowych oraz piosenki narodowej Arirang, trzech między-koreańskich spotkań na szczycie Kim-Mun oraz Zimowych Igrzysk Olimpijskich Pjongczang 2018. Na podstawie tych przypadków, w pracy udowodniono istnienie wspólnych elementów w kulturze symbolicznej obu Korei.

This work includes studies of four selected cases, analysed in terms of the occurrence of common elements of symbolic culture of South and North Korea. In the first part of the work the definitions of culture, symbol and symbolic culture are briefly presented. The second part of the work describes the main sources of Korean culture, i.e. the founding myth of Korea, the history of the emergence of one state from the time of United Silla to the Joseon dynasty, the influence of Confucian philosophy on Korean culture, and the creation and development of the Korean language and alphabet. In the third part of the thesis, studies of the four selected cases are presented: the Korean flags, Korean national anthems and the national song Arirang, three inter-Korean Kim-Mun summits and the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games. Based on these cases, the work proved the existence of common elements in the symbolic culture of both Koreas.
