Comparison of Neutral Spanish with the peninsular variety: the case of dubbing and subtitles of the film Peter Pan

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie różnic miedzy hiszpańskim neutralnym i odmianą języka hiszpańskiego, używaną na Półwyspie Iberyjskim na podstawie dubbingu i napisów z filmu „Piotruś Pan” i opierając się na przykładach zauważonych w produkcji, udowodnić że ta neutralność jest trudna do osiągnięcia. W pierwszym rozdziale opisano niektóre definicje odnośnie tłumaczenia audiowizualnego i jego funkcjonowania. Druga część poświęcona jest głównie hiszpańskiemu neutralnemu, jego historii i charakterystyce. Natomiast trzeci rozdział przedstawia analizę cech charakterystycznych odmiany neutralnej i porównuje je z odmianą mówioną na Półwyspie Iberyjskim udowadniając sztuczność hiszpańskiego neutralnego.

The purpose of this final degree study is to present the differences between Neutral Spanish and the peninsular variety. Using the dubbing and subtitles of "Peter Pan", and based on the examples extracted from the film, it is demonstrated that the so called neutrality is hard to achieve. In the first chapter, the definition of audiovisual translation and its functioning is explained. The second part is mainly focused on the Neutral Spanish and its history: the birth of the concept and its characteristics. Finally, the third chapter is an analysis of the characteristics of Neutral Spanish, which are compared with the ones of the peninsular variety in order to demonstrate the artificiality of the former.

El propósito de este trabajo es presentar las diferencias entre español neutro y la variedad peninsular recurriendo al doblaje y la subtitulación de la película "Peter Pan" y, a base de los ejemplos extraídos del filme, demostrar que la llamada neutralidad es difícil de lograr. En el primer capítulo se describen algunas definiciones acerca de la traducción audiovisual y su funcionamiento. La segunda parte está principalmente dedicada al español neutro, su historia, surgimiento del concepto y sus características. Por último, el tercer capítulo presenta un análisis de las características de la variedad neutra y las compara con la variedad peninsular demostrando la artificialidad de español neutro.
