Translation of Mexican Drug Jargon into Polish Based on the Series Narcos: Mexico

Niniejsza praca dyplomowa jest analizą przekładu meksykańskiego żargonu narkotykowego na język polski w oparciu o produkcję Narcos: Meksyk. Celem pracy jest obserwacja użytych technik tłumaczeniowych i konsekwencji w odbiorze dzieła w Polsce, które niosą za sobą wybory tłumaczki serialu. Intencją dysertacji jest także zbadanie, czy tłumaczenie pozbawia serial elementów językowych lub kulturowych i czym jest to spowodowane. W części teoretycznej, składającej się z trzech rozdziałów, przedstawiono meksykański język narkotykowy, opisano techniki stosowane w przekładzie żargonów i dialektów, a także krótko scharakteryzowano tłumaczenie audiowizualne. Czwarty rozdział jest praktycznym badaniem technik tłumaczeniowych wykorzystanych w przekładzie serialu.

This thesis is an analysis of the translation of Mexican drug jargon into Polish based on the production of Narcos: Mexico. The aim of the work is to observe the translation techniques used and the consequences in the reception of the work in Poland, which are caused by the choices of the translator of the series. The intention of the dissertation is also to investigate whether the translation deprives the series of linguistic or cultural elements and what is its cause. In the theoretical part, consisting of three chapters, the Mexican drug language is presented, techniques used in the translation of jargons and dialects are described, and audiovisual translation is briefly characterized. The fourth chapter is a practical study of the translation techniques used in the translation of the series.

El presente trabajo de licenciatura analiza la traducción del narcolenguaje mexicano al polaco basándose en tres temporadas de la serie televisiva Narcos: México. Se quiere averiguar cuáles técnicas de traducción se usan y qué consecuencias causan las elecciones traductoras en la recepción de la serie en Polonia. Se pretende investigar si existen elementos lingüísticos o culturales que se pierden en la traducción y cuáles son los motivos de ello. En la parte teórica, que consta de tres capítulos, se presenta el fenómeno del narcolenguaje mexicano, se comentan las técnicas empleadas en la traducción de argots y dialectos y se describe brevemente la traducción audiovisual. El cuarto capítulo es un estudio práctico de las técnicas utilizadas en la traducción de la serie.
