Time and history in the late poetry of Kazimierz Wierzyński

Artykuł poświęcony jest kategorii czasu i historii w późnej twórczości Kazimierza Wierzyńskiego. Poeta, poruszając tę problematykę, tworzy nowy rodzaj tożsamości, tak zwaną tożsamość historyczną, zamkniętą w obszarze pamięci ludzkiej, na którą składają się kultura, rzeczywistość historyczna oraz czas jednostkowy, czyli historia indywidualna.

Creative activity of Kazimierz Wierzyński spanned from 1919 to 1969, encompassing 22 volumes of poetry and 6 of prose. Within this 50-year period most scholars distinguish four different phases. The final one that started in 1951 and ended with the last poetic volume, Sen mara [Delusion dream], finished shortly before Wierzyński’s death, is characterized by emotional distance from the present and reflection upon eternity. The present paper concentrates on three aspects of perception of time and history in the poetry of the aforementioned phase, namely relationship between history and eternity, connections of time and space, and sensual dimension of time.
