Seseo and ceceo in Andalusia: historical and social perspectives

Głównym celem niniejszej pracy jest zagłębienie się w kwestię językową dotyczącą zjawisk seseo y ceceo w Andaluzji. W ten sposób, została poddana rekonstrukcji ewolucja wspomnianych zjawisk, aby podkreślić, że występowanie seseo i ceceo nie jest przypadkowe. Wprost przeciwnie, ma swoje korzenie w odległej historii języka hiszpańskiego, czego owocem jest istnienie fonemów /s/ i /θ/, subtelnie różniących się od fonemów właściwych hiszpańskiemu standardowi.Następnie zostaje poddany weryfikacji stopień uznania dla seseo y ceceo wśród samych Andaluzyjczyków, jaki i sukcesywne wykorzenienie, nie tylko ceceo (które jest wariantem pozbawionym socjokulturalnego prestiżu), ale także seseo (wariantu o uznanym statusie), na rzecz rozróżnienia /s/:/θ/.Kluczowe zadanie niniejszej pracy tkwi w odzwierciedleniu aktualnego stanu realizacji seseante i ceceante w Andaluzji. Zaobserwowano, że szczególnie ludzie młodzi i wykształceni dobrowolnie decydują się od nich odstępować na rzecz rozróżnienia.Dalszej analizie zostają poddane zachowania językowe w kontekście migracji do miasta, w którym rdzenna forma użytkowników (ceceo) jest pozbawiona prestiżu. Ponadto, wyselekcjonowane zostały czynniki faworyzujące utrzymanie bądź porzucenie rdzennej artykulacji. Ostatecznie stwierdza się, że skłonność ku standardowej normie hiszpańskiej zakorzeniona jest między innymi w łatwym dostępie do mediów i edukacji. W ten sposób odniesiono się do badań porównujących model instruktażowy dla prezenterów andaluzyjskich kanałów telewizyjnych z opiniami samych prezenterów na temat fonicznych użyć o charakterze dialektalnym.

The aim of this thesis is to study thoroughly the linguistic situation regarding the phenomena seseo and ceceo in Andalusia. Therefore, we reconstruct the chronological evolution of such phenomena in order to emphasize that the appearance of seseo and ceceo is not accidental. On the contrary, it is deep-seated in the distant history of the Spanish language whose product is the presence of phonemes /s/ and /θ/, subtly divergent from those typical of Spanish standard.Straight on, we review the seseo and ceceo estimation among the same Andalusians and the subsequent eradication, not only of ceceo (which is a form without a sociocultural prestige), but also of seseo (the form of legitimate status), in favour of the distinction /s/: /θ/.The main objective of this work is to reflect the current condition of seseo and ceceo realization in Andalusia. It is observed that particularly young and educated speakers voluntarily decide to abandon them in favour of the distinction.Upon this, we examine the attitudes of the speakers in the face of the migratory situation to the urban nucleus, where their vernacular form (ceceo) lacks the social prestige. Moreover, we select factors that favour the maintenance or abandonment of the vernacular articulation.Finally, we conclude that inclination towards the Spanish standard is rooted among others in the ease of access to the media and education. Likewise, we refer to the comparison between the instructional model for the presenters of Andalusian television networks and the same speakers' judgments on the phonics usage of the dialectal character.

En este trabajo pretendemos adentrarnos en la realidad lingüística referente a los fenómenos de seseo y ceceo en Andalucía. Para ello reconstruimos la evolución cronológica de dichos fenómenos con el fin de hacer hincapié en que la aparición de ceceo y seseo no son accidentales, sino todo lo contrario: tienen sus raíces en la historia lejana de la lengua española cuyo producto es la presencia de fonemas /s/ y /θ/, sutilmente divergentes de los propios del español estándar.Seguidamente, se someten a revisión la estimación de seseo y ceceo entre los mismos andaluces y la sucesiva erradicación, no solo del ceceo que es una modalidad privada del prestigio sociocultural , sino también del seseo, la modalidad de estatus legítimo, a favor de la distinción /s/:/θ/. El objeto central de este trabajo reside en reflejar la condición actual de realización seseante y ceceante en Andalucía. Se observa que particularmente los hablantes cultos y jóvenes deciden abandonarlas voluntariamente a favor de la distinción.A continuación, examinamos actitudes de los hablantes ante la situación migratoria al núcleo urbano, donde su modalidad vernácula (ceceo) carece del prestigio social. Además, seleccionamos factores que favorecen el mantenimiento o abandono de la articualción vernácula. Por último, se concluye que la inclinación hacia el español estándar está arraigada entre otros en la facilidad de acceso a los medios de comunicación y a la enseñanza. Asimismo, nos referimos a la comparación del modelo de instrucción para los presentadores de las cadenas televisivas andaluzas con los juicios de los mismos locutores sobre los usos fónicos de carácter dialectal.
