Freedom, openness, and access access to information across the web and the problem of internet piracy: exepmlified with Chomikuj.pl website

W pracy przedstawiona została analiza historii, otoczenia prawnego oraz modelu biznesowego polskiego serwisu internetowego Chomikuj.pl, służącego do przechowywania i udostępniania plików. Zestawiona ona jest z popularnymi teoriami dotyczącymi wolności, otwartości i dostępności informacji w sieci (pojawiają się kwestie między innymi etyki hakerskiej i otwartego oprogramowania) oraz opisanymi przez Tima O'Reilly'ego założeniami standardu Web 2.0. Na tej podstawie wyprowadzone są wnioski dotyczące powiązań pomiędzy wymienionymi ideałami, a piractwem internetowym. Poruszona zostaje także kwestia wpływu zjawiska piractwa na cyfrową dystrybucję treści w kontekście zagrożeń dla polskiego rynku wydawniczego.

This work contains an analysis of history, legal environment and business model of polish website Chomikuj.pl, which enables its users to save and share computer files. The analysis is confronted with popular theories about freedom, openness, and access to information on the World Wide Web (for example: hackers' ethic and free software) along with the foundations of Web 2.0 standard, as presented by Tim O'Reilly. The work concludes with showing the connection between aforementioned ideas and internet piracy. It also touches on the problem of how piracy may affect digital distribution in the Polish publishing market.
