Olive Schreiner, Trzy opowiadania. Tłumaczenie i opracowanie Marcelina Noworyta

Niniejsza praca jest dwujęzycznym wydaniem trzech opowiadań Olive Schreiner: Żona buddyjskiego mnicha, Dary Życia i Trzy sny na pustyni, zamieszczonych w zbiorze Daughters of Decadence, zredagowanym przez Elaine Showalter. Pracę rozpoczyna przedstawienie Schreiner; jej życia, zainteresowań i znajomości, które w bezpośredni sposób wpłynęły na jej późniejszą twórczość. Następnie scharakteryzowany jest ruch Nowej Kobiety, do którego Schreiner należała, wraz z jego dążeniami, działalnością i przedstawicielkami. Moją propozycję tłumaczeń opowiadań Schreiner, zestawioną z ich oryginałami, poprzedza rozdział zawierający interpretacje poszczególnych utworów. Pracę kończy nota tłumacza, w której wyjaśniam dokonane przeze mnie wybory tłumaczeniowe.

This work is a bilingual edition of the three short stories written by Olive Schreiner: The Buddhist Priest’s Wife, Life’s Gifts, and Three Dreams in a Desert, included in the collection titled Daughters of Decadence, edited by Elaine Showalter. The work begins with the presentation of Schreiner; her life, interests and acquaintances, which directly influenced her later work. Then, the New Woman movement, to which Schreiner belonged, along with its pursuit, activity and representatives, is characterized. My proposal of Schreiner’s stories’ translation, set together with their originals, is preceded by a chapter containing interpretations of the individual short stories. The thesis is completed with the translator’s note in which I explain the translational choices I made.
