Porównanie sposobów rozwiązywania zagadek przez Augusta Dupina, Sherlocka Holmesa i Herkulesa Poirota

Celem mojej pracy pod tytułem „Porównanie sposobów rozwiązywania zagadek przez Augusta Dupina, Sherlocka Holmesa i Herkulesa Poirota” jest analiza metod działania trzech najsłynniejszych detektywów w literaturze anglojęzycznej. W zasadniczej części pragnę dowieść, że zarówno kreacja postaci jak i metody działania głównych bohaterów wykazują liczne podobieństwa. W pierwszym rozdziale skupiłam się na przedstawieniu tych trzech postaci literackich, tj. Augusta Dupina, Sherlocka Holmesa oraz Herkulesa Poirota. Porównałam metody ich działania w celu ukazania podobieństw i różnic w sposobie ich pracy. W tym rozdziale również pragnę zaznaczyć, że zarówno Agatha Christie, jak i Arthur Conan Doyle wzorowali swoich bohaterów na postaci wykreowanej przez Edgara Allana Poego. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest narracji w dziełach opisujących losy Augusta Dupina, Sherlocka Holmesa oraz Herkulesa Poirota. Należy podkreślić, że narratorzy są zarazem przyjaciółmi głównych bohaterów. Nie tylko pełnią rolę pomocników, ale również odtwarzają dla czytelnika unikalne historie, które są ciekawie opowiedziane i zachowują wątek tajemniczości aż do samego końca. W ostatniej części swojej pracy zwracam uwagę na to, że dzieła stworzone przez Poego, Conan Doyle’a oraz Christie są wciąż obecne w kulturze w postaci nowych adaptacji filmowych i wznowień książek. Pomimo, że słynne historie o przygodach trzech detektywów powstały w XIX i XX wieku, nadal pozostają one źródłem inspiracji dla wielu współczesnych autorów.

The purpose of my work titled “Comparison of the Mystery Solution Methods of Auguste Dupin, Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot” is the analysis of methods of solving crimes by the three most famous detectives in English literature. In the main part of thesis, I would like to prove that the creation of the characters and the way they worked shows lot similarities. In the first chapter I focused on the introduction of the detectives: Auguste Dupin, Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot. I have compared their methods to show similarities and differences in the way they work on solving the mysteries. Moreover, in this chapter I want to point out that Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle modelled their characters on the detective created by Edgar Allan Poe.The second chapter is devoted to the narrative in the works which describe adventures of Auguste Dupin, Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot. What needs to be pointed out is the fact that the narrators in these stories are at the same time best friend of the main characters. They do not only play the role of helpers, but also reconstruct the unique stories, which are written in interesting way and keep the thread of the mystery to the very end. In the last part of my thesis I want to point out that works created by Edgar Allan Poe, Arthur Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie are still present in our culture in the shape of movies adaptation and renewal of books. Despite the fact that famous stories about these three detectives were written in nineteen and twenty century these are still a source of inspiration for modern writers.
