Stéphane Mallarmé, “Herodias”. Translation and editing Norbert Gacek

Niniejsza praca stanowi propozycję dwujęzycznego (polsko-francuskiego) wydania Herodiady Stéphane’a Mallarmégo. Tekst wspomnianego dzieła podaję tutaj we własnym tłumaczeniu. Do mojej edycji dołączam też apendyks zawierający antologię wszystkich wcześniejszych przekładów fragmentów owego poematu. Herodiadę opatruję wstępem składającym się z pięciu części. Pierwszy rozdział stanowi krótką biografię Mallarmégo. Rozdział drugi dotyczy historii powstawania samego tekstu oraz jego polskich tłumaczeń. Rozdział trzeci ma na celu nakreślenie historycznoliterackiego kontekstu, ważnego dla zrozumienia treści omawianego utworu. Rozdziały czwarty i piąty skupiają się natomiast na interpretacji treści Herodiady. W pracy zamieszczona jest również nota tłumacza oraz nota edytorska.

This thesis is a proposal of a bilingual (Polish to French) edition of Herodias by Stéphane Mallarmé. The text of the aforesaid work is presented here in my own translation. To this edition, I also attach an appendix containing an anthology of all earlier translations of fragments of this poem. To Herodias I give an introduction consisting of five parts. The first chapter is a brief biography of Mallarmé. The second chapter addresses the history of the text itself and its Polish translations. The third one aims to outline the historical and literary context that is important for understanding the content of the work in question. Chapters four and five focus on the interpretation of Herodias. The thesis also includes a translator's note and an editorial note.
