"Le Petit Prince": Analiza porównawcza trzech brazylijskich tłumaczeń utworu Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza trzech brazylijskich tłumaczeń utworu „Le Petit Prince” autorstwa Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Opublikowane w 1943 najsłynniejsze dzieło francuskiego autora trafiło do serc wielu czytelników, szybko zyskując międzynarodową sławę. „Mały Książę” jest aktualnie jedną z najczęściej tłumaczonych książek na świecie. Stworzenie niniejszej pracy zostało motywowane chęcią zbadania sytuacji na brazylijskim rynku wydawniczym oraz porównania istniejących tłumaczeń klasyka literatury dziecięcej. W pierwszym rozdziale nakreślono historię życia i twórczości autora książki, a także dokonano próby zdefiniowania czytelnika, jakiemu Antoine de Saint-Exupéry zadedykował dzieło. Równocześnie zapoznano się recepcją książki na świecie i w Brazylii. Powyższe badanie przyczyniło się do wyboru trzech tłumaczy, których prace zostały poddane analizie porównawczej: Dom Marcos Barbosa, Ferreira Gullar i Mário Quintana. W drugim rozdziale opisano teorie tłumaczeń niezbędne do późniejszego porównania wybranych tłumaczeń książki. Trzeci rozdział ma na celu potwierdzenie hipotezy, powstałej przy początkowej analizie tekstu, jakoby Mário Quintana, w swojej pracy, bazował na tłumaczeniu pośrednim z języka angielskiego. Czwarty rozdział zadedykowany jest szczegółowej analizie prac wykonanych przez Dom Marcos Barbosę oraz Ferreirę Gullara i ma na celu zbadanie widocznych podobieństw między obiema wersjami tłumaczeń.

This work aims to analyze three Brazilian translations of the "Le Petit Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Published in 1943, the most famous work of the French author stole the hearts of many readers, quickly gaining international fame. “The Little Prince” is currently one of the most frequently translated books in the world. My work was driven by the desire to investigate the situation on the Brazilian publishing market and to compare existing translations of the classic of children's literature. The first chapter outlines the life and work of the author of the book, as well as attempts to define the target reader. This is followed by the analysis of the reception of the book in the world and in Brazil. The above analysis contributed to the selection of three translators whose work was subjected to a comparative analysis: Dom Marcos Barbosa, Ferreira Gullar and Mário Quintana. The second chapter of my work describes the translation theories necessary for the subsequent comparison of selected translations of the book. The third chapter aims to investigate the hypothesis that Mário Quintana, in his work relied on an indirect translation of English. The fourth chapter is dedicated to a detailed analysis of the work done by Dom Marcos Barbosa and Ferreira Gullar and aims to explore the apparent similarities between the two versions of the translations.

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo analisar três traduções brasileiras do livro “Le Petit Prince” da autoria de Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Publicado em 1943, o trabalho mais famoso do autor francês conquistou corações de inúmeros leitores, rapidamente ganhando fama internacional. “O Pequeno Príncipe” é atualmente um dos livros mais traduzidos no mundo. A criação da seguinte tese de mestrado foi motivada pelo desejo de examinar a situação no mercado editorial brasileiro e de comparar as traduções existentes do clássico da literatura infantil. O primeiro capítulo descreve a história da vida e da obra do autor do livro, bem como constitui uma tentativa de definir o leitor, ao qual Saint-Exupéry dedicou o trabalho. Ao mesmo tempo familiarizámo-nos com a recepção do livro no mundo e no Brasil. Este estudo contribuiu para a escolha de três tradutores, cujo trabalho submetemos a uma análise comparativa: Dom Marcos Barbosa, Ferreira Gullar e Mário Quintana. No segundo capítulo descrevemos as teorias da tradução necessárias para a comparação subsequente das traduções selecionadas. O terceiro capítulo visa confirmar a nossa hipótese formada na leitura inicial dos textos, de que, Mário Quintana, no seu trabalho, apoiou-se na tradução indireta de inglês. O quarto capítulo é dedicado a pesquisa detalhada do trabalho feito por Dom Marcos Barbosa e Ferreira Gullar e tem por objetivo investigar as aparentes semelhanças entre as duas versões das traduções.
