Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej była próba nakreślenia okoliczności, które przyczyniły się do powstania typu komedii, które obejmuje pojęcie marivaudage. Analiza mnogich wpływów, zarówno społecznych, historycznych, jak i dramatycznych nie należała do najprostszych, niemniej jednak pozwoliła nakreślić ogólny charakter XVIII wieku, który odbija się wyraźnie w twórczości literackiej dramaturga, Pierre’a de Marivaux, od którego tytułowe pojęcie bierze swoją nazwę. Poruszając kwestię marivaudage, nie sposób było nie wspomnieć o sztuce zatytułowanej Gra miłości i przypadku z 1730 roku, która dopełniała analizę całego zjawiska.Pierwszy rozdział pracy służy szeroko rozumianej analizie okoliczności, które doprowadziły do powstania marivaudage. Odwołując się do okresów panowania króla Ludwika XIV, regenta Filipa Orleańskiego i króla Ludwika XV łatwo było zauważyć zmiany zachodzące w mentalności XVIII wiecznych Francuzów. Naród zmęczony sztywnością rządów Króla Słońce przyjął z radością rozluźnienie obyczajów zapoczątkowane przez regenta i kontynuowane przez króla Ludwika XV. Zachodzące zmiany odbijały się również w sztuce. Szczególnie zaś były widoczne w dziedzinie teatru, który przeżywał rozkwit i znacząco ewoluował w tym okresie. Francuzi pragnęli miłych i przyjemnych rozrywek, dlatego też komedia stała się gatunkiem szczególnie przez nich umiłowanym. W tych właśnie okolicznościach rozpoczął swoją twórczość literacką Pierre de Marivaux, nawiązując do XVII wiecznej préciosité i stając się, na równi z malarzem Antoine’em Watteau, jednym z czołowych reprezentantów nowego nurtu zwanego rokoko.Drugi rozdział pracy w całości poświęcony jest dramatopisarzowi. Badanie jego biografii i twórczości literackiej pozwala na lepsze zrozumienie innowacyjności marivaudage. Pierre de Marivaux, zamiast naśladować Moliera, jak większość ówczesnych dramaturgów, postanawił pójść własną drogą i analizować szeroko pojętą miłość. Pomagała mu w tym współpraca z Teatrem Włoskim, który powrócił do Francji za panowania regenta Filipa Orleańskiego. Korzystając z ich tradycji i własnych przekonań dramatopisarz stworzył nową jakość komedii. Marivaudage opiera się bowiem na analizie wszystkich możliwych niuansów miłości. Sztuki te wyróżniają się subtelnością uczuć, wyrafinowanym językiem, walką świadomości z nieświadomością i poszukiwaniem prawdy. Są to komedie pełne błyskotliwych dialogów i nieoczekiwanych zwrotów akcji. Warto również zaznaczyć, że komedie Pierre’a de Marivaux wpisywały się w estetykę literatury rokokowej, respektując zasadę niestałości, wyrafinowanego języka i upodobania do masek.Trzeci rozdział pracy obejmuje analizę sztuki teatralnej zatytułowanej Gra miłości i przypadku napisanej przez Pierre’a de Marivaux w 1730 roku. Komedia ta, uważana za arcydzieło marivaudage posiada w sobie wszystkie jego cechy. Do głównych jej wątków należy motyw przebierania. Sylwia przebiera się za swoją służącą Lizettę, a Dorant za swojego lokaja Arlekina. Motyw ten wprowadza wątek przewodni, którym jest oczywiście miłość, lub bardziej szczegółowo narodziny miłości w sercach Sylwii i Doranta i ich służących. Na tym planie Pierre de Marivaux konfrontuje te dwie warstwy społeczne, panów i ich służących wskazując na przypisane im społecznie cechy.Biorąc pod uwagę wszystkie te czynniki, warto zauważyć, że marivaudage to zjawisko bardzo złożone, na którego powstanie składa się wiele czynników. Mnogość wpływów i nowa wizja teatru wprowadzona przez Pierre’a de Marivaux doprowadziła do tego, że ten gatunek stał się tak wyjątkowy i niepowtarzalny. Co więcej, pomimo niezmiernie wyrafinowanego języka wciąż cieszy się ogromną popularnością wśród Francuzów, o czym świadczy częstotliwość odgrywania sztuk Marivaux w Komedii Francuskiej.

The aim of this master's thesis was to try to outline the circumstances that contributed to the creation of a type of comedy that includes the concept of marivaudage. The analysis of numerous influences, both social, historical and dramatic, was not the simplest, but nevertheless it allowed to outline the general character of the eighteenth century, which is reflected clearly in the work of the playwright, Pierre de Marivaux, from which the title concept takes its name. When discussing the issue of marivaudage, it was impossible not to mention the play entitled The Game of Love and the Chance of 1730, which completed the analysis of the whole phenomenon.The first chapter of the work serves the broadly understood analysis of the circumstances that led to the creation of marivaudage. Referring to the reign of King Louis XIV, regent Philippe Orleans and King Louis XV, it was easy to notice the changes taking place in the mentality of the eighteenth-century French. The nation, tired of the stiffness of the Sun King’s rule, accepted with joy the loosening of customs introduced by the regent and continued by King Louis XV. These changes in customs were also reflected in art. In particular, they were visible in the field of theater, which was flourishing and significantly evolved during this period. The richness of the plays reflects it. The French wanted nice and pleasant entertainment, which is why the comedy became their most beloved genre. Under these circumstances, Pierre de Marivaux began his literary work, referring to the 17th century préciosité and becoming, along with the painter Antoine Watteau, one of the leading representatives of the new current called rococo.The second chapter of the work is entirely devoted to the playwright. The study of his biography and literary work allows for a better understanding of marivaudage innovativeness. Pierre de Marivaux, instead of imitating Moliere, like most of the playwrights of the day, decided to go his own way and analyze the broadly understood subject of love. The Italian Theater, which returned to France under the reign of Philip Orleans, helped him explore this vast idea. Using their traditions and their own convictions, Pierre de Marivaux created a new quality of comedy. Marivaudage's plays are based on the analysis of all possible nuances of love. His comedies are distinguished by the subtlety of feelings, refined language, the struggle of consciousness with the unconscious and the search for truth. They are full of brilliant dialogues and unexpected twists. It is also worth noting that the comedies of Pierre de Marivaux fit into the aesthetics of rococo literature, respecting the principle of instability, sophisticated language and preference for masks.The third chapter of the work includes an analysis of the play entitled The Game of Love and Chance, written by Pierre de Marivaux in 1730. This comedy, considered a masterpiece of marivaudage, has all qualities of the genre. Among its main motives is the theme of dressing. Sylvia dresses up as her servant Lizette, and Dorant for her servant Arlequin. This motif introduces the theme, which is of course love, or more specifically the birth of love in the hearts of Sylwia and Dorant and their servants. Through this simple action of the characters, Pierre de Marivaux confronts these two social classes, the masters and their servants, pointing to the socially assigned features.Considering all these factors, it is worth noting that marivaudage is a very complex phenomenon, which consists of many factors. The multitude of influences and the new vision of theater introduced by Pierre de Marivaux is what makes this genre so unique. What's more, despite the extremely sophisticated language, it still enjoys great popularity among the French, as evidenced by the frequency of playing Marivaux plays in the French Comedy.

Le XVIIIᵉ siècle était une période remarquable pour la littérature française. Il abondait en nombreux textes littéraires en formes très variées. Bien sûr, cette littérature tellement riche était strictement liée à l’ambiance de l’époque et à sa situation socio-historique. Puisque le règne de Louis XIV, la régence de Philippe d’Orléans, le règne de Louis XV et les événements accompagnants ont contribué à son caractère particulier et unique. Les circonstances changeaient successivement, de la rigidité du Roi-Soleil à l’opposition du peuple, par le relâchement des mœurs initié par le régent et à sa continuation sous Louis XV. Ces bouleversements se reflétaient aussi dans le domaine artistique où le courant rococo a apparu. Cependant, il convient de souligner leur importance énorme dans le développement du domaine théâtral. Puisqu’au XVIIIᵉ le théâtre ne survivait pas seulement le fleurissement, mais aussi l’évolution. La richesse des pièces représentées en était témoin. La comédie est devenue plus appréciée que les autres genres dramatiques. C’était justement dans ces circonstances que Pierre de Marivaux a commencé à écrire ses pièces. Le dramaturge a choisi un autre chemin que Molière et ses successeurs. Marivaux a décidé de se concentrer sur de nombreuses nuances de l’amour, de sa naissance, ses obstacles, jusqu’à la déclaration. Pour exprimer la subtilité des émotions accompagnant des personnages surpris par l’amour, il a élaboré un langage spécifique, très recherché. En outre, dans ses comédies il présentait aussi la lutte entre ce qui était conscient et inconscient et la recherche de la vérité. Tous ces éléments sont compris dans la notion du marivaudage pour laquelle les comédies de Pierre de Marivaux ont créé une base de référence. Parmi ses pièces, Le Jeu de l’amour et du hasard est considéré comme le meilleur exemple de ce genre dramatique puisqu’il comporte tous ses éléments cruciaux. D’abord, la naissance de l’amour chez les maîtres et les valets qui constitue son fil conducteur, puis les entraves qui empêchent son développement et finalement le dévoilement des sentiments. Bien sûr, toutes ces nuances sont exprimées dans le langage très raffiné, propre à Marivaux. Compte tenu de tous ces facteurs, il importe de souligner que le marivaudage est un phénomène très complexe. De nombreuses des impacts et la nouvelle vision du théâtre introduite par Pierre de Marivaux ont rendu ce genre exceptionnel et unique. En outre, malgré le langage très sophistiqué, le dramaturge est toujours très apprécié par le public, puisque ses pièces sont souvent représentées à la Comédie Française.
