Niniejsza praca magisterska jest poświęcona funkcjonowania motywu wody w zbiorze sonetów Le Mespris de la vie et consolation contre la mort Jean-Baptiste Chassigneta, francuskiego poety przełomu XVI i XVII wieku.Motyw wody, występujący w ponad 40 sonetach zbioru, jest realizowany poprzez trzy główne grupy obrazów: oczyszczająca woda, płynąca rzeka, morze. Każdy z nich może być przedstawiony za pomocą wielu metafor. Analiza sonetów dowodzi, że motyw ten może być realizacją wielu różnych tematów literackich, jak choćby tematu oczyszczenia, kary, upływu czasu, zmienności świata, życia, śmierci, przeciwności życiowych. Interesującym aspektem wieloznaczności motywu wody jest także samo jego pochodzenie, które może mieć trzy główne źródła: Biblia, teksty Seneki oraz idea Heraklita Ta Pantha rhei.Jak dowodzą tego sonety Chassigneta, polisemia motywu wody objawia się na dwóch poziomach: tematu literackiego, którego jest przejawem oraz metafory, za pomocą której jest wyrażony.

This master's thesis is dedicated to analyze the versatility of water's literary motif in sonnets from the collection Le Mespris de la vie et consolation contre la mort of Jean-Baptiste Chassignet, the French poet of turn of XVI and XVII century.The literary motif of the water is present in more than 40 sonnets in this collection and its realizations can be divided in three groups: purifying water, flowing river, sea. Every image can de expressed by different metaphors and it can represent very different literary theme, like purification, punishment, passage of time, constancy of the changes in the world, live, death and world's dangers. This literary motif is interesting also because he's got three general sources: Holy Bible, Seneca's writings, Heraclites' idea of Ta Pantha Rhei.The polisemy of water's literary motif is proved in Chassignet's sonnets by two things: the realization by different metaphors and the incarnation of various themes.

Le mémoire présente le sujet de la polyvalence du motif de l'eau dans les sonnets du recueil Le Mespris de la vie et consolation contre la mort du poète français de tournant du XVIe et XVIIe siècle, Jean-Baptiste Chassignet.Le motif de l'eau est présent dans plus de 40 sonnets du recueil qui peuvent être partagés en trois groupes principaux: l'eau purificatrice, l'eau coulante de la rivière, l'eau de la mer. Chaque possibilité est exprimée par plusieurs métaphores et elle peut incarner un autre thème littéraire, par exemple le thème de la purification, de la punition, de l'écoulement du temps, de l'inconstance, de la vie et de la mort, des pièges de la vie terrestre. Le motif de l'eau est intéressant aussi du point de vue de sa source qui est triple: la Bible, les textes de Sénèque et l'idée d'Héaclite Ta Pantha rhei.La polysémie du motif de l'eau dans les sonnets de Chassignet est visible sur deux niveaux: des images qui le réalisent et des thèmes qu'il incarne.
