Przedmiotem pracy są skandynawskie kryminały w repertuarze wydawnictw takich jak Czarna Owca, Czarne, W.A.B., oraz Wydawnictwo Literackie. Celem pracy jest zbadanie liczby powieści krajów skandynawskich na polskim rynku wydawniczym. Zestawienia statystyczne i bibliografia tłumaczonych kryminałów skandynawskich stworzone zostały dzięki użyciu metody bibliograficznej, natomiast metoda analizy i krytyki piśmiennictwa posłużyła do przedstawienia tematyki jaką poruszają autorzy, a także do przedstawienia historii, genezy powieści kryminalnej.Uporządkowane informacje dotyczące ilości powieści kryminalnej z krajów Północy na polskim rynku wydawniczym oraz sformułowane charakterystyczne cechy kryminałów krajów nordyckich wyróżniające je od innych kryminałów są wynikiem niniejszej pracy. Kryminały skandynawskie wydawane są w Polsce z dużą intensywnością mniej więcej od 2003 roku, stają się one coraz bardziej popularne i chętnie czytane, czego dowody można znaleźć na portalach przeznaczonych dla czytelników. Należy zaznaczyć, że wśród badanego materiału najwięcej tytułów tłumaczonych było z języka szwedzkiego, a najmniej z duńskiego.
