Financial risk before the COVID-19 pandemic and during it is performance – comparative analysis on the example of small and large travel agencies

Celem niniejszej pracy była analiza porównawcza ryzyka finansowego dużych i małych biur podróży w okresie sprzed pandemii COVID-19 oraz w trakcie jej trwania. W części teoretycznej zostało wyjaśnione znaczenie ryzyka finansowego oraz opis wybuchu pandemii COVID-19 wraz ze skutkami. W części empirycznej natomiast przedstawiono wyniki badań, których głównym celem była ocena stopnia narażenia badanych podmiotów na poszczególne rodzaje ryzyka finansowego w wyniku pandemii COVID-19. Podmiotami wybranymi do badań zostały: Centrum Podróży AURA Sp. z o.o., Orlando Travel sp. z o.o., Planet Escape sp. z o.o. sp. k., Nowa Itaka sp. z o.o., Tui Poland sp. z o.o. oraz Rainbow Tours S.A. Proces badawczy zrealizowano przy zastosowaniu następujących metod i narzędzi badawczych: analiza dokumentacji badanych przedsiębiorstw, metoda ilościowa oraz metoda porównawcza. Jako główne źródła danych empirycznych wykorzystano sprawozdania finansowe badanych biur podróży za 2019 i 2020 rok. Na podstawie wyników przeprowadzonych badań stwierdzono, że stopień narażenia badanych podmiotów na poszczególne rodzaje ryzyka finansowego wyraźnie się zmienił w wyniku pandemii COVID-19.

The aim of this study was to compare the financial risk of large and small travel agencies in the period before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The theoretical part explains the importance of financial risk and the description of the COVID-19 pandemic with its consequences. On the other hand, the empirical part presents the results of studies whose main purpose was to assess the degree of exposure of the studied entities to particular types of financial risk, which changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic). The entities selected for the research were: Centrum Podróży AURA Sp. z o.o., Orlando Travel sp.z o.o., Planet Escape sp.z o.o. sp.k., Nowa Itaka sp.z o.o., Tui Poland sp.z o.o. and Rainbow Tours S.A. The research process was carried out using the following research methods and tools: quantitative method and comparative method. The financial statements of the surveyed travel agencies for 2019 and 2020 were used as the main sources of empirical data. Based on the results of the research, it was found that the degree of exposure of the surveyed entities to individual types of financial risk clearly changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
