Painted Grey Ware Culture and its Place in Concepts of Indo-Aryan (Ᾱrya) Migration into the Indian Subcontinent

Celem niniejszej pracy jest przybliżenie kultury ceramiki szarej malowanej. Materiał ceramiczny oraz inne, wybrane aspekty kultury materialnej tej jednostki, na podstawie dostępnych źródeł, poddane będą charakterystyce i analizie ze względu na ich podobieństwo do innych, indoeuropejskich czy też indoaryjskich jednostek. W oparciu o wyciągnięte wnioski, podjęta zostanie próba umiejscowienia kultury ceramiki szarej malowanej w kontekście szerszego zjawiska, jakim była migracja Indo-Ariów (Ārya) na subkontynent indyjski. Przytoczone zostaną również wybrane źródła literackie, odnoszące się do omawianej jednostki, jak i samej migracji. W kontekście tejże migracji poruszona będzie również kwestia badań antropologicznych i genetycznych.

The following descriptive discourse presents the characteristics of Painted Grey Ware Culture and its associations with Indo-Aryan (Ārya) migration into the Indian subcontinent. Most of the science community has had already rejected the theory of Aryan invasion as well as the one proclaiming indigenousness of the Indo-Aryans in the Indian subcontinent. It seems that the allochtonic paradigm has monopolised most of the theories. However, this does not mean that consensus has been reached and the route of Indo-Aryan migration has been decided. Despite the multitude of hypothesis, some tendencies seem to be gaining the general approval. In this paper the main focus will be laid on archaeological and literary sources.
