Difficult topics in literature for children and young people

Celem niniejszej pracy było udowodnienie, że literatura dla dzieci i młodzieży pomaga oswoić trudne tematy. Praca ma charakter teoretyczny. W pierwszej części autorka zastanawia się nad rolą tabu oraz jego wpływem na wychowanie oraz rozwój najmłodszych, zwracając szczególną uwagę na funkcje, jakie spełnia literatura w procesie oswajania z trudnościami. W części drugiej autorka omawia książki przeznaczone dla dzieci i młodzieży, które podejmują tematy takie jak śmierć, choroba i cierpienie, niepełnosprawność oraz wojna. Trzecia część pracy dotyczy kwestii debaty społecznej na temat poruszania trudnych aspektów życia w literaturze dla dzieci i młodzieży oraz zagrożeń, jakie mogą nieść nieodpowiednie książki podejmujące tematy tabu.

The aim of this study was to prove that literature for children and young people helps to tame difficult topics. The paper has theoretical nature. In the first part, the author reflects on the role of taboos and their influence on the upbringing and development of the youngest, paying particular attention to the functions that literature plays in the process of taming difficulties. In the second part, the author discusses books for children and young people that deal with topics such as death, illness and suffering, disability and war. The third part of the study talks about social debate on tackling difficult aspects of life in children's and young people's literature and the dangers that may be posed by inappropriate books dealing with taboo subjects.
