Relacje saudyjsko-irańskie ze względu na liczne różnice pomiędzy tymi dwoma państwami zwłaszcza na podłożu religijnym pozostają skomplikowane. Zasadniczym powodem tego stanu rzeczy jest wewnętrzny podział islamu na dwa główne nurty: szyizm i sunnizm. Jednakże sytuacja regionalna i działania zachodnich mocarstw również mają wpływ na stosunki Arabii Saudyjskiej z Iranem. Celem pracy jest prześledzenie kontaktów pomiędzy tymi dwoma regionalnymi mocarstwami w latach 1932-2003 za pomocą przedstawienia i przeanalizowania istotnych wydarzeń, które miały wpływ na owe relacje.
Saudi-Iranian relations are complicated because of the many differences between the two countries, especially on religious grounds. The main reason for this is the internal division of Islam into two mainstreams: Shiism and Sunnis. However, the regional situation and the actions of the Western Powers also have an impact on Saudi Arabia’s relations with Iran. The purpose of the paper is to trace the diplomatic contacts between these two regional powers from 1932 to 2003 by presenting and analyzing the important events that have affected these relations.
