The role of rhinomanometry in the diagnosis of the sleep apnea

Od wieków obturacyjny bezdech senny towarzyszy ludzkości, diagnozowany i leczony dopiero od końca XX wieku nadal jest bagatelizowanym i niedocenianym problemem medycznym. W pracy podjęto próbę oceny przydatności badania rynomanometrycznego w diagnostyce i leczeniu obturacyjnego bezdechu sennego oraz wykazania wpływu otyłości na wystąpienie schorzenia. Praca zawiera informacje dotyczące anatomii i fizjologii nosa przedstawia patologię i epidemiologię obturacyjnego bezdechu sennego oraz opis badania rynomanometrycznego W badaniach ankietowych uczestniczyło 50 osób, grupę badanych stanowili pacjenci Poradni Rynomanometrii i Alergologii Kliniki Otolaryngologii CM UJ w Krakowie. Do przeprowadzenia badań wybrano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego, a narzędziem badawczym był kwestionariusz wywiadu oraz skala wizualno-analogowa (VAS) co stanowiło uzupełnienie do wyniku badania rynomanometrycznego. Po przeanalizowaniu wyników badaną populację podzielono na cztery grupy. Przeprowadzone badania wykazały obiektywność rynomanometrii w diagnostyce i przydatność badania w kwalifikacji do leczenia bezdechu sennego. Since ages an obstructive sleep apnea has been accompanying humanity, diagnosed and treated only since the twentieth century is still an ignored and underestimated medical issue. In the thesis an attempt to assess the usefulness of rhinomanometric examination in the diagnosis and treatment of an obstructive sleep apnea was made and to demonstrate the impact of obesity on the occurrence of the disease. The thesis contains information concerning the nose anatomy and physiology, presents pathology and epidemiology of an obstructive sleep apnea as well as description of rhinomanometric examination. The survey involved 50 people, the group of subjects was made by patients examined in Rhinomanometry and Allergology Department END Clinic Jagiellonian University Medical Centre in Cracow. For the purpose of the research the method of diagnostic survey was chosen and a research tool was a questionnaire and a visual analogue scale (VAS) which was complimentary to the result of the rhinomanometric examination. After analysing the results the examined population was divided into four groups. The study showed objectivity of rhinomanometry in the diagnostics and usefulness of research in the classification to the sleep apnea treatment. An influence of the obesity on the occurrence of the disease was also stated.
