Legal and economic challenges for the aviation industry as well as hazards thereto with particular focus on the development of airlines and airports

Praca ma na celu przedstawienie prawno-gospodarczych problemów z jakimi zmaga się obecnie szeroko pojęta branża lotnicza, a w szczególności przewoźnicy lotniczy jak i same porty lotnicze. Autor przedstawił zarówno przeszłe jak i obecne problemy, którym przemysł lotniczy musiał podołać, a także te, którym będzie musiał sprostać w przyszłości.Praca obejmuje cztery rozdziały. W pierwszej części autor skupił się na aliansach lotniczych przedstawiając przede wszystkim przyczyny oraz cele powstania aliansów strategicznych, ich rodzaje w branży lotniczej, korzyści płynące z ich zawierania przez linie lotnicze, a także prognozy dotyczące ich rozwoju.W drugiej części pracy, przedstawione zostały tanie linie lotnicze oraz hybrydy, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem wpływu LCC na branżę lotniczą.Trzeci rozdział dotyczy rywalizacji linii oraz ich walki o utrzymanie się na rynku, przy czym skupiono się przede wszystkim na konkurencji pomiędzy przewoźnikami, fuzjach i przejęciach wśród linii, a także problemie małej rentowności przewoźników oraz pomocy publicznej.Czwarty i ostatni rozdział tej pracy, poświęcony samym portom lotniczym w Polsce i na świecie, obejmuje zagadnienia dotyczące: rozwoju lotnisk poprzez ich prywatyzację, zachęt dla linii lotniczych, działalności pozalotniczej lotnisk, a także wpływu i oddziaływania portów lotniczych na gospodarkę oraz problemów słabego zagranicznego zasięgu polskich portów. W ostatnim podrozdziale poruszono problem przerostu ambicji władz lokalnych i budowy lotnisk wbrew rozsądkowi.

This paper aims to present legal and economic problems that currently affect the widely understood aviation industry, with special attention paid to air carriers and airports. The author presents both past and present problems that the aviation industry has faced as well as the ones it will have to address in the future.The paper contains four chapters. In the first part the author focuses on airline alliances, presenting mainly the reasons for and objectives of creating strategic alliances, the types thereof in the aviation industry, the benefits for airlines resulting from the conclusion thereof as well as the forecasts concerning their development.In the second part of the paper, the author presents low-cost airlines and hybrids, with particular focus on the impact of the LCCs on the aviation industry.The third chapter concerns the rivalry among airlines and their efforts to maintain their presence on the market, with the main emphasis placed on mergers and acquisitions, competition among the carriers as well as the problem of little profitability of the carriers and public aid.The fourth and the last chapter of the paper, devoted solely to airports in Poland and throughout the world, contains the following issues: the development of airports through their privatisation, incentives for airlines, non-aviation activity of airports, impact of airports on the economy as well as the problems of an insufficient international reach of Polish airports. In the last sub-chapter, the author addresses the problem of the overgrown ambition of local authorities and the construction of new airports which seems contrary to logic and reason.
