The image of female characters and stereotypes associated with them in animations for children

Sposób przedstawienia postaci kobiecych w bajkach dla dzieci może utrwalać bądź obalać utarte w społeczeństwie stereotypy, a co za tym idzie, może rzutować na kształtowanie się światopoglądu młodych ludzi. Wizerunek postaci żeńskich w kinematografii zmieniał się na przestrzeni lat, co było skutkiem rozwoju nurtu feministycznego, dzięki któremu kobiety zyskały autonomię oraz mogły brać aktywny udział w życiu społecznym. Zmiany te widoczne są także w animacjach skierowanych do młodszej widowni. Niniejsza praca dotyczy zatem analizy oddziaływania tego nurtu na kreowanie postaci kobiecych w filmach wyprodukowanych w latach 1937 – 2022, czyli na przestrzeni trwania trzech fal feminizmu. Badanie jest również oparte na feministycznej teorii filmu, dla której podstawą jest psychoanaliza, dzięki czemu możliwe jest zaobserwowanie symboliki obecnej w animacjach, która dotyczy kobiecej cielesności oraz dojrzewania.

The way female characters are portrayed in children's cartoons can either perpetuate or overturn the stereotypes established in society, and thusly it can affect the formation of young people's worldview. The image of female characters in cinematography has been changing over the years as a result of the development of the feminist trend, thanks to which women have gained autonomy and have been able to take an active part in socjety. These changes are also evident in animations aimed at younger audiences. The present thesis is therefore concerned with analyzing the impact of this trend on the creation of female characters in films produced between 1937 and 2022, that is, over the course of three waves of feminism. The study is also based on feminist film theory, for which psychoanalysis is the basis, making it possible to observe the symbolism present in animations that concerns female carnality and puberty.
