Information processing during remote and hybrid court interpreting

W artykule zostały przedstawione wyniki pilotażowego badania ankietowego z udziałem tłumaczy przysięgłych pracujących podczas rozpraw zdalnych i hybrydowych, którego celem było ustalenie, jakie są ich doświadczenia i odczuwane trudności w trakcie tłumaczenia ustnego na odległość. W zrealizowanym badaniu wzięto pod uwagę aktualny stan wiedzy na temat czynników wpływających na jakość komunikacji i zdolność przetwarzania informacji w trakcie wideokonferencji, wywołujących tzw. Zoom fatigue, czyli uczucie niepokoju, fizycznego i psychicznego wyczerpania czy wręcz wypalenia. Badanie zostało zrealizowane w formie anonimowej ankiety internetowej, w której łącznie wzięło udział 76 tłumaczy przysięgłych mających doświadczenie w tłumaczeniu ustnym w trakcie rozpraw zdalnych lub hybrydowych. Wyniki ankiety wskazują, że choć udział w rozprawach stacjonarnych jest dla tłumaczy mniej korzystny pod względem czasowym i finansowym, wolą oni jednak taką formę pracy, a to ze względu na problemy związane z komunikacją na odległość, np. z jakością dźwięku, koordynacją ról tłumacz-osoba tłumaczona czy brakiem możliwości wykonania tłumaczenia szeptanego. Z uwagi na małą liczbę respondentów i ograniczony zakres pytań należy traktować badanie jako wstęp do dalszej analizy problemów wskazanych przez ankietowanych.

The article presents the results of a pilot survey with certified interpreters participating in remote and hybrid hearings, aimed at investigating their experiences and perceived difficulties during remote interpreting. The survey considered the current state of knowledge about the factors that affect the quality of communication and the ability to process information during communication by videoconference, and cause the so-called Zoom fatigue, i.e. feelings of anxiety, physical and mental exhaustion, or even burnout. The survey was conducted in the form of an anonymous online questionnaire with the total of 76 certified interpreters with experience of interpreting during remote or hybrid hearings. The results of the survey indicate that, despite the fact that it is less advantageous for interpreters in terms of time and gratification to participate in stationary hearings, they prefer to participate physically in the court room due to numerous problems with remote communication, such as problems with sound, coordination of interpreter-foreigner roles, and the inability to perform chuchotage. Given the small number of respondents and the limited scope of the questions, the survey should be viewed as a preliminary to further indepth analysis of the problems identified by the interpreters.
