Sons rebelling against their fathers - the expressionistic father-sohn-conflict based on the drama "The Son" by Walter Hasenclever

Niniejsza praca analizuje problem konfliktu ojca z synem na przykładzie dramatu Waltera Hasenclevera „Syn” opublikowanego w 1914 roku. Celem rozważań jest zbadanie podłoża konfliktu ojciec-syn oraz ukazanie wzajemnej relacji między literaturą a otaczającą rzeczywistością. W pracy zostały wykorzystane następujące metody badawcze: immanentna analiza tekstu, psychoanaliza literaturoznawcza jak również historia społeczna. Motyw przewodni dramatu Waltera Hasenclevera to zawarte w tytule pracy powstanie synów przeciwko ojcom. Przedstawiony przez autora początkowo konflikt rodzinny eskaluje do wymiarów rebelii na poziomie pokoleniowym. Ekspresjonistyczny konflikt ojca z synem to z jednej strony odzwierciedlenie panujących stosunków u schyłku epoki wilhelmińskiej, z drugiej strony symboliczny akt walki inicjujący nadejście przemian społecznych.

The following work analyzes the problem of the conflict between father and son illustrated at the example of Walter Hasenclever drama "The Son", published in 1914. The aim of the work is to investigate the basis of father-son conflict, and to show mutual relations between literature and the surrounding reality. In this work there were used following examination methods: immanent analysis of the text, psychoanalysis of literary studies as well as social history.The main theme of the drama "The Sohn" is this in the title contained revolt sons against fathers. The initially presented family conflict escalates to the dimension of a generational rebellion against state. The expressionist conflict between father and son reflects on the one hand the prevailing social relations at the end of the Wilhelmine era, on the other hand is a symbolic act of initiating social changes.

Die vorliegende Arbeit ist eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit dem expressionistischen Vater-Sohn-Konflikt. Sie stellt sich die Aufgabe das Phänomen des Vater-Sohn-Kampfes zu erforschen und aufgrund der durchgeführten Analyse die wechselseitige Wirkung zwischen Literatur und Wirklichkeit dem Leser näherzubringen. Der Gegenstand der folgenden Untersuchung bildet das 1914 veröffentlichte Drama von Walter Hasenclever „Der Sohn“. Das „Drama der Menschenwerdung“ wie der Autor sein Werk selbst zu nennen pflegte, gehört zu den bedeutendsten Dramen des Expressionismus. Die in dem Theaterstück dargestellte Konfliktsituation scheint zu dieser Zeit ein Leitgedanke der deutschen expressionistischen Bühnenwerke zu sein. Die Arbeit analysiert das Werk in Anlehnung an die Ansätze der Sozialgeschichte sowie der psychoanalytischen Literaturwissenschaft. Zusätzlich bedient sie sich der werkimmanenten Interpretationsmethode.
