French influence on the system of the Duchy of Warsaw

Praca podejmuje temat zakresu i charakteru przemian instytucjonalnych, prawnych i administracyjnych w Księstwie Warszawskim pod wpływem Napoleońskiej Francji. Celem pracy jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób francuski model konstytucyjny i prawny został wdrożony na ziemiach polskich w latach 1807–1815 oraz jak te reformy przyczyniły się do modernizacji aparatu państwowego.Struktura pracy została podporządkowana analizie poszczególnych aspektów ustrojowych Księstwa Warszawskiego. W pierwszej kolejności omówiono kontekst historyczny jego powstania oraz proces nadania konstytucji. Następnie przedstawiono organizację władzy centralnej i terenowej, system sądownictwa, podstawy systemu prawnego oraz ustrój społeczny. Każdy z tych obszarów został przeanalizowany pod kątem obecności i znaczenia wpływów francuskich, co pozwala na ocenę ich roli w kształtowaniu nowoczesnego modelu państwowości w epoce napoleońskiej.

This thesis addresses the scope and nature of institutional, legal and administrative changes in the Duchy of Warsaw under the influence of Napoleonic France. The aim of this thesis is to show how the French constitutional and legal model was implemented in Polish territories between 1807 and 1815 and how these reforms contributed to the modernisation of the state apparatus. The structure of the thesis is based on an analysis of individual aspects of the political system of the Duchy of Warsaw. First, the historical context of its creation and the process of granting it a constitution are discussed. Next, the organisation of central and local government, the judicial system, the foundations of the legal system and the social system are presented. Each of these areas is analysed in terms of the presence and significance of French influences, which allows for an assessment of their role in shaping the modern model of statehood in the Napoleonic era.
