Anxiety and depression and social support of parents of children with Down syndrome from the Association of Parents and friends of children with Down syndrome

Diagnoza: zespół Downa u dziecka jest dla rodziców oraz rodziny trudną sytuacją. Opieka nad nim będzie wiązała się ze zmianą organizacji życia rodziny i dalszych planów. Niejednokrotnie rodzice będą odczuwać lęk i niepokój. Nasilenie się negatywnych odczuć może prowadzić do depresji. Bez odpowiedniego wsparcia stan ten może się utrzymywać. Niniejsza praca ma charakter badawczy. Głównym jej celem było poznanie poziomu lęku i depresji u rodziców oraz wsparcia jakie otrzymali. Badaniem objęto 28 rodziców (matki i ojcowie) ze Stowarzyszenia Rodziców i Przyjaciół Dzieci z Zespołem Downa „Tęcza” w Krakowie. Badania wykazały, że: lęk o dziecko będzie towarzyszył rodzicom mimo, że obecnie nie obserwuje się jego nasilenia. Objawy depresji i jej graniczne wartości obserwuje się u kilku badanych. Najbliższa rodzina jest dla nich wsparciem.

Diagnosis of down's syndrome in a child is a difficult situation for parents and family.The care of him will be associated with the change of family life and further plans. Many times parents will be feeling fear and anxious. Intensifying of negative feelings can lead to depression. Without the appropriate support this state can stay. This work has research character. The main aim of this work was to know the level of parent's anxiety and depression and the support they have received. The study included 28 parents (mothers and fathers) from the Association Parents and Friends of Children with the Down's syndrome ,,Rainbow” in Cracow. Studies have shown that: fear of the child will be accompanied by parents although currently not observed its severity. Symptoms of depression and its limit values observed in several subjects. Immediate family is right for them.
