Changes of medium. Reconstructions of The Manuscript found in Saragossa by Jan Potocki

Praca poświęcona jest dwustuletniej historii powieści Jana Potockiego Rękopis znaleziony w Saragossie i funkcjonowaniu tego utworu w sytuacji pojawiających się nowych możliwości technologicznych. W trzech częściach pracy omówione zostały w tym kontekście kolejne epoki i charakterystyczne dla nich media: wiek XIX to powieść drukowana, wiek XX - film, a wiek XXI reprezentuje powieść hipertekstowa. W polu obserwacji autora rozprawy pozostaje także sama postać Jana Potockiego, którego życiorys nierozerwalnie połączony jest z treścią analizowanego tu dzieła.

This dissertation is devoted to the two-hundred-year history of Jan Potocki’s novel The Manuscript found in Saragossa and its functioning in the situation of new technological possibilities that are occuring. The consecutive epochs and their characteristic media were elaborated in this context in the three parts of this thesis : 19th century – printed novel, 20th century – film and 21st century – represented by hypertext. Jan Potocki on his own, whose life is inextricably bound to the content of the analysed piece of work, is also the study area of the author of this dissertation.
