The Icon of Christ Pantocrator

Jednym z najbardziej znanych typów wizerunków ikonograficznych w Kościele Wschodnim jest ikona Chrystusa Pantokratora (Wszechwładcy). Obraz ten w swoim typie ma genezę wczesnochrześcijańską. Należy wiązać to przedstawienie ikoniczne z tematyką Wniebowstąpienia oraz zagadnieniem zobrazowania w malarstwie sakralnym – kwestii czasów eschatycznych, tj. Powtórnego Przyjścia (Paruzji) Jezusa Chrystusa w Boskiej Chwale na ziemię, aby sądzić żywych i umarłych, (jako władca całego Stworzenia). Tekst jest komentarzem do kopii tego typu obrazu, zamieszczonego na okładce czasopisma.

One of the best known types of iconic image in the Eastern Orthodox Church is the icon of Christ Pantocrator. The genesis of this type of icon goes back to the times of Early Christianity.This iconic presentation is to be connected with the theme of the Ascension and the problem of pictorial renderings in sacral painting – the question of the Second Coming (Parousia) of Jesus Christ in God’s Glory on the earth, to judge the living and the dead (as the Lord of the whole Creation).
