Thailand – “the land of Boys' Love dramas”. The status of LGBTQ+ people in the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Korea and its representation in BL dramas in the context of controversies and negative themes

W niniejszej pracy opisano, jak wygląda reprezentacja osób LGBTQ+ w BL dramach w Królestwie Tajlandii, zwanej niekiedy „krainą BL dram” oraz w Republice Korei, będącej zdecydowanie odmiennym przykładem nastawienia społecznego wobec mniejszości seksualnych. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie kontrowersyjnych wątków oraz szkodliwej reprezentacji występujących w BL dramach dwóch wspomnianych wyżej państw – jednym będącym pionierem gatunku oraz drugim dopiero zaczynającym tworzenie w nim. Zwrócono również uwagę na sposób w jaki przedstawiane są w tego typu produkcjach kobiety, jako że jest to nawracający problem w wielu z nich.Praca podzielona jest na trzy rozdziały. Pierwszy opisuje historię praw i sytuację osób LGBTQ+ Królestwa Tajlandii i Republiki Korei, z głównym uwzględnieniem osób homoseksualnych oraz transpłciowych, jako iż to najczęściej one pojawiają się w BL dramach. W drugim rozdziale przedstawione są przykłady kontrowersyjnych wątków, na podstawie wybranych BL dram Królestwa Tajlandii, jak również krótka geneza tego gatunku oraz opis tego, jak wygląda obecnie przemysł dram BL. Rozdział trzeci analogicznie opisuję sytuację w Republice Korei oraz porównuje BL dramy obu krajów.

The thesis describes the representation of LGBTQ+ people in BL dramas in the Kingdom of Thailand, sometimes called "the land of BLs", and in the Republic of Korea, which is a country of different social attitudes towards sexual minorities. The aim of the work is to present controversial themes and harmful representation in BL dramas of two above-mentioned countries - one being a pioneer in the genre and the second just starting to create in it. There is also a mention of how women are depicted in this type of productions, as it is a recurring problem in many of them.The work is divided into three chapters. The first describes the history of rights and situation of LGBTQ+ people in the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Korea, with the main focus on homosexual and transgender people, as they appear most often in BL dramas. The second chapter presents examples of controversial themes, based on selected Thai BL dramas, as well as a brief genesis of this genre and a description of what the BL dramas industry looks like today. The third chapter describes the situation in the Republic of Korea similarly and compares BL dramas of both countries.
