Praca omawia zagadnienia związane z prowadzeniem polityki zagranicznej przez Stany Zjednoczone w XXI wieku w kontekście praw człowieka. Stany Zjednoczone od wieków miały ambicje do bycia państwem przodującym w ochronie praw podstawowych. Ówcześnie starają się promować demokrację na świecie, głównie w krajach Bliskiego Wschodu, które zmagają się z wojnami domowymi i wewnętrznymi konfliktami. Pierwszy rozdział poświęcony jest historii rozwoju praw człowieka w polityce USA po zakończeniu drugiej wojny światowej, opisuje udział Amerykanów w uchwaleniu Powszechnej Deklaracji Praw Człowieka oraz przybliża postać Eleanor Roosevelt, która pomogła wpłynąć na świadomość Amerykanów o tym jak ważną kwestią jest ochrona praw człowieka. Drugi rozdział opisuje jak Stany Zjednoczone łączyły promowanie ochrony praw człowieka ze swoimi interesami politycznymi za czasów prezydentury George’a W. Busha. Przedstawia jaki wpływ miały ataki na World Trade Center na postrzeganie przez Amerykanów terroryzmu oraz prezentuje problem jakim jest amerykańska baza wojskowa w Guantánamo, gdzie nagminnie dochodzi do łamania praw człowieka. The thesis discusses issues related to the conduct of foreign policy by the United States in the 21st century in the context of human rights. The United States has had the ambition to be a leading country in the protection of fundamental rights for centuries. Nowadays, they’re attempting to promote democracy in the world, mainly in the Middle East, where the countries are struggling with civil wars and internal conflicts. The first chapter is devoted to the history of human rights development in US politics after the end of World War II, describes the participation of Americans in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and introduces the figure of Eleanor Roosevelt, who helped to influence Americans awareness of the importance of protecting human rights. The second chapter describes how the United States has combined the promotion of human rights protection with its’ political interests during the presidency of George W. Bush. It presents the impact of attacks on the World Trade Center on the perception of terrorism by Americans and presents the problem which is the American military base in Guantánamo, where human rights are commonly violated. It presents the issue of humanitarian problems during US military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. The third chapter describes the continuation of these policies during the presidency of Barack Obama. Unsuccessful attempts to close Guantánamo and further actions in Afghanistan. It also presents the military involvement and humanitarian aid of the United States in the new conflict which is the civil war in Syria.
