Zbigniew Libera's Positives as an inspiration to question reality

Niniejsza praca licencjacka została poświęcona serii zdjęć Zbigniewa Libery zatytułowanej Pozytywy. Opis odbioru reinscenizacji znanych przedstawień historycznych stał się podstawą do analizy mechanizmów pamięci i wyobraźni. Tekst dotyczy społecznego funkcjonowania fotografii dokumentalnej i artystycznej oraz manipulacyjnych zastosowań obrazów. Za pomocą terminologii wypracowanej przez Gerarda Genette'a określono dynamikę relacji między testami drugiego stopnia a ich źródłami. Pozytywy zostały zestawione z innymi pracami Zbigniewa Libery o tematyce historycznej. Całość rozważań zakończono wnioskiem o ambiwalentnych znaczeniach obrazów.

This bachelor's thesis is devoted to Zbigniew Libera's series of photos entitled Positives. The description of the reception of re-staging of famous historical representations became the basis for the analysis of the mechanisms of memory and imagination. The text concerns the social functioning of documentary and artistic photography as well as the manipulative uses of images. Applying the terminology developed by Gerard Genette, the dynamics of the relationship between the second-level tests and their sources was determined. The Positives were juxtaposed with other historical works by Zbigniew Libera. All the considerations ended with a conclusion about the ambivalent meanings of the images.
