Role of dubbing in creation of new dialogue track in Shrek movie and its polish and italian versions

The purpose of this study was to present the process of creating new dialogue track through the use of dubbing technique, one of the three main audiovisual translating forms (next to the subtitles and lector). In the first part of this study the definition of dubbing and the description of the process of creating the dubbing (which consists of both: the work of the translator, and technical and artistic supervisors) is included. Different phases of the formation of dubbing are also described. Next part of the paper describes briefly the history of dubbing and compares the situation in Poland and Italy with regard to different forms of audiovisual translation.In the next part of the study advantaged and disadvantages of dubbing in comparison to other forms of translation of a film are discussed. The theoretical part of the study was further supported by a comparison of selected examples of dialogue from the animated film “Shrek” with its counterparts from the Polish and Italian versions of the film. In the analytical part of the study those fragments of the dialogue in which there are significant differences in translation (resulting from cultural differences) are described in details. The study is completed with the summary about the differences between the three versions of the movie Shrek (original, Polish and Italian) and the role of dubbing in the creation of these versions.

Celem niniejszej pracy było przedstawienie procesu tworzenia nowej ścieżki dialogowej poprzez wykorzystanie techniki dubbingu, jednej z trzech głównych, obok napisów i lektora, form tłumaczenia audiowizualnego. W pierwszej części pracy znajduje się definicja dubbingu, opis procesu jego tworzenia, na który składa się zarówno praca tłumacza – dialogisty, jak i innych osób czuwających nad stroną techniczną i artystyczną oraz poszczególne fazy powstawania dubbingu. Następnie przytoczyłam pokrótce historię dubbingu oraz opisałam sytuację, jaka panuje w Polsce i we Włoszech pod względem stosowanych w tych krajach form tłumaczenia audiowizualnego. W tej samej części pracy wymieniłam zalety i wady dubbingu na tle innych form przekładu dzieła filmowego. Część teoretyczna pracy podparta została następnie porównaniem wybranych przykładów dialogów pochodzących z filmu animowanego pt. Shrek z ich odpowiednikami z polskiej i włoskiej wersji filmu. W analizie opisane zostały te fragmenty, w których wyraźne są zmiany w tłumaczeniu, wynikające z różnic kulturowych i dokonane w celu adaptacji tekstu na potrzeby odbiorców wersji polskiej i włoskiej. Praca zakończona jest krótkim podsumowaniem zawierającym wnioski na temat różnic pomiędzy trzema wersjami (oryginalną, polską i włoską) oraz roli dubbingu w stworzeniu tych wersji.
