Fantastic spectral libraries : from fictional books to extratextual artifacts

W artykule omówiony został problem książek fikcyjnych (skonstruowanych), nazywanych przez Pawła Dunin-Wąsowicza literaturą widmową. Na przykładzie utworów reprezentujących literaturę najnowszą (Klubu Dumas Artura Péreza-Revertego, Jonathana Strange i pana Norrella Susanny Clarke oraz trzech utworów Joanne K. Rowling nawiązujących do cyklu o Harrym Potterze) została opisana tendencja zaobserwowana w tekstach postmodernistycznych, a polegająca na 1) tworzeniu literackich artefaktów przekraczających granice świata fikcji i 2) konstruowaniu wewnątrz fikcyjnych światów bibliotek dzieł doskonale imitujących te rzeczywiste.

The article tackles the problem of fictional (constructed) literature termed by Paweł Dunin-Wąsowicz “spectral”. Reading through Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s The Club Dumas, Susanna Clarke’s Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell, and J.K. Rowling’s three works alluding to the Harry Potter cycle, the author proceeds with describing a tendency observed in postmoder fiction that is (1) creating fictional artifacts transgressing the borders of fictional world; (2) and constructing within this very world libraries collecting fictional texts imitating factual ones.
