The contemporary role, value and aesthetics of the Babia Góra Highlanders costume in creating identity in the local community

Praca porusza problematykę miejsca i roli stroju regionalnego Babiogórców we współczesnej kulturze. W niniejszej pracy został przedstawiony rys etnograficzny stroju Górali Babiogórskich kształtowany na przestrzeni wieków. Tradycyjny ubiór mieszkańców Podbabiogórza rozpatrywany jest jako ważny element dziedzictwa kulturowego regionu, jako element wizerunku górala. Poruszany jest również problem autentyczności i zmiany funkcji stroju w dobie homogenizacji kultury i globalizacji. Praca oparta na przeprowadzanych badaniach terenowych oraz literaturze naukowej, przedstawia jaką rolę pełni strój regionalny we współczesnych procesach tożsamościowych. W tym kontekście zostaje poddane analizie zjawisko mody na lokalność oraz dziedzictwa wytworzonego. Badane są przyczyny pojawiania się elementów stroju w nowych miejscach i okolicznościach oraz ich wpływ na zjawisko estetyzacji oraz kiczu. Ponadto w pracy podjęto próbę wskazania autorytetów w dziedzinie stroju babiogórskiego oraz ich funkcji w kreowaniu tożsamości Górala Babiogórskiego.

The work deals with the issue of the place and role of the Babia Góra Highlanders’ costume in contemporary culture. This work presents an ethnographic outline of the Babia Góra Highlanders’ costumes shaped over the centuries. The traditional clothing of the inhabitants of Podbabiogórze is considered as an important element of the cultural heritage of the region, as an element of the image of the highlander. The issue of authenticity and changes in the function of clothing in the era of homogenization of culture and globalization is also discussed. The work, based on the field research and scientific literature, presents the role of regional costume in contemporary identity processes. In this context, the phenomenon of fashion for locality and produced heritage is analyzed. The reasons for the appearance of elements of the costume in new places and circumstances are investigated, as well as their impact on the phenomenon of aestheticization and kitsch. Moreover, the work attempts to indicate the authorities in the field of Babia Góra's costume and their functions in creating the identity of Babia Góra Highlander.
