Plastic surgery of funnel chest by Nuss. Analysis of expectations and level of satisfaction of patients

Klatka piersiowa lejkowata jest jedną z częściej spotykanych deformacji klatki piersiowej. Celem niniejszej pracy była ocena poziomu satysfakcji pacjentów po wykonanym zabiegu klatki piersiowej lejkowatej metoda Nussa. Badania przeprowadzono wśród 50 osób w wieku od 15-25 roku życia, za pomocą kwestionariusza ankiety własnego autorstwa. Przeprowadzone badania pozwalają na wyciągnięcie następujących wniosków. Zabiegowi zdecydowanie częściej poddają się mężczyźni. Są oni bardziej krytyczni i wymagający w ocenie pooperacyjnej. Poziom zadowolenia po wykonanym zabiegu był wysoki, a pacjenci byli zadowoleni z przebiegu oraz efektu operacji. Najbardziej na co się uskarżali w całym procesie leczenia był ból pooperacyjny, który był silny i mocno dokuczał badanym. Ankietowani wykazywali duży poziom świadomości oraz stan wiedzy na temat choroby i samego zabiegu. Na pytanie gdzie mowa była o ponownym podjęciu decyzji o wykonaniu zabiegu, zdecydowana większość wypowiedziała się, że dzięki posiadanej już wiedzy, doświadczeniu, zdecydowaliby się jeszcze raz na operację. Najważniejszym aspektem, którym się kierowali w podjęciu ostatecznej decyzji był wymarzony i długo oczekiwany efekt kosmetyczny. Był to główny powód wykonania operacji.

Pectus Excavatum is one of the most common chest malformations. The satisfaction evaluation of patients’ who have previously underwent Nuss procedure is the objective of this thesis. The survey was conducted of a sample of 50 patients at the age of 15-25 and based on the original test. The study leads to the following conclusions. Patients who decide to undergo a surgery are mostly men. Along with the willingness of undergoing surgery comes also the criticism, so that they are also more demanding in assessment of the chest condition after the operation. Overall level of satisfaction in the study group was high. The patients was satisfied both with the course and the effect of the treatment. As the most disruptive symptom in the course of the recuperation they mentioned intense postoperative pain. The respondents shown substantial knowledge of their disease and the procedure itself. When asked about the perspective of taking the decision again the vast majority of them confirm that thanks to the gained experience and knowledge they would have undergo the procedure again. The majority of them admit the most significant factor affecting the decision was the desired cosmetic effect, which remains the main reason for the surgery.
