„Beat generation” in Polish literature (based on Jack Kerouac’s On the Road and Beautiful Twentysomethings by Marek Hłasko)

Niniejsza praca jest próbą odnalezienia znamion ruchu „beat generation” w polskiej literaturze, w oparciu o powieść W drodze Jacka Kerouaca i Piękni dwudziestoletni Marka Hłaski. Ukazuje analogie jakie można odnaleźć pomiędzy tymi pisarzami, zarówno w kwestii biograficznej, jak i czysto literackiej. Analizuje przy tym problem pokoleniowości i autobiografizmu jako rodzaju autokreacji. Przestawia także nowatorski charakter narracji w obu powieściach. Rozważania te ukazują, że mimo licznych podobieństw nie można mówić o ruchu „beat generation” na gruncie polskiej literatury, a raczej o istnieniu pewnej analogii.

This work is an attempt to find signs of the "beat generation" movement in Polish literature, based on a novel On the road by Jack Kerouac and Piękni dwudziestoletni by Marek Hłasko. The work shows the analogies that can be found between these writers, both in terms of biography and purely literary. It analyzes the problem of the generation and the autobiographical as a kind of self-creation. It also shows the novelty of the narrative in both novels. These considerations show that although there are many similarities between the movement and Polish novels, we cannot speak about the existence of "beat generation" in Polish literature. We can only perceive some analogies.
