The family relationships in the "Books of the Family" by Leon Battista Alberti

Celem powyższej pracy magisterskiej jest omówienie relacji rodzinnych w oparciu o „Księgi o rodzinie” L. B. Albertiego, w zestawieniu ze współczesną wizją typowej florenckiej rodziny XV-wiecznej oraz z innymi pismami z tej epoki, którym poświęcone są pierwsze dwa rozdziały pracy. W trzecim rozdziale zostały przeanalizowane: gatunek literacki, terminologia, stosunki między ojcem a synami, matką a innymi członkami rodziny, braćmi, grupami krewnych zwanymi „starszymi” i „młodszymi”. W pracy omówione są cechy charakterystyczne tych relacji, ich hierarchia oraz uczucia łączące członków rodziny. Jak się okazuje stosunki rodzinne opisane przez Albertiego nie różnią się zbytnio od obrazu przeciętnej rodziny patriarchalnej z tego okresu, zbudowanej wokół centralnej figury jaką był ojciec, tym niemniej Alberti wprowadził kilka nietypowych aspektów, związanych głównie z jego osobistymi doświadczeniami.

The aim of this MA thesis is to discuss family relationships based on the "Books of the Family" by L.B. Alberti juxtaposed with a modern vision of a typical fifteenth century Florentine family as well as other works of the epoch. The first two chapters of this paper focus on this issue. The third chapter is devoted to the analysis of: a literary genre, terminology, father-sons relationships, relationships between mother and other members of the family, between brothers, between groups of relatives called "elders" and "juniors." The paper discusses characteristic features of these relations, their hierarchy and feelings connecting the family members. As it turns out, the family relationships - as described by Alberti - do not differ substantially from those depicted in an average patriarchal family of the epoch - built around the central figure of the father. Nevertheless, Alberti introduced a few atypical aspects coming from his personal experience.

Lo scopo di questa tesi è la descrizione dei rapporti familiari in base ai "Libri della famiglia" di L. B. Alberti, messi a confronto con la visione odierna di una tipica famiglia quattrocentesca e con altri scritti contemporanei, a cui sono dedicati i primi due capitoli. Nel terzo capitolo vengono analizzate: il genere letterario, la terminologia, le relazioni tra il padre e i figli, tra la madre e altri familiari, tra i fratelli e tra i gruppi di parenti chiamati "i maggiori" e "i minori". La tesi traccia le caratteristiche di questi legami, la loro gerarchia e i sentimenti che si celano tra i membri della famiglia. Alla fine risulta che i rapporti descritti da Alberti non diferiscono molto dall'immagine di una tipica famiglia patriarcale dell'epoca, costruita intorno alla figura centrale del padre. Tuttavia Alberti lascia un'impronta personale, legata soprattutto alle sue esperienze personali.
