CONTEMPORARY STRATEGIES OF SHAPING REGIONAL IDENTITY IN LOWER SILESIA IN THE CULTURAL STUDIES PERSPECTIVE

Praca poświecona jest problematyce kształtowania się tożsamości regionalnej na Dolnym Śląsku. Proces ten poddany zostaje analizie zawierającej wprowadzenie w specyfikę regionu, kontekst historyczny oraz współczesne tendencje w procesach tożsamościowotwórczych. Przyjęta zostaje perspektywa kulturoznawcza, podkreślająca kluczową rolę działań kulturalnych lub okołokulturalnych w kształtowaniu świadomości regionalnej Dolnoślązaków. Główna część pracy zawiera panoramiczny przekrój działań mających charakter tożsamościowotwórczy, realizowanych na Dolnym Śląsku przeważnie w drugiej dekadzie XXI wieku. Działania te zostają scharakteryzowane w ramach trzech różnych strategii tożsamościowotwórczych: strategii rozwoju, eksploracji i transpozycji, które różnią się podmiotami podejmującymi działania, celami i rezultatami działań, jednak pozostają od siebie zależne i wspólnie kształtują współczesną tożsamość regionalną. Ostatnia część pracy poświęcona jest efektom procesów tożsamościowotwórczych i zawiera charakterystykę współczesnej tożsamości dolnośląskiej z uwzględnieniem aspektów pozytywnych i negatywnych oraz w odniesieniu do koncepcji społeczeństwa obywatelskiego i otwartego regionalizmu.

The paper is dedicated to the issue of regional identity development in the Lower Silesia – south-west region of Poland. Analysis of this process contains an introduction to the specifics of the region, historical context and contemporary tendencies in the identity-shaping processes. A cultural perspective has been applied to the research, so the reasoning is based mostly on examples of cultural or semi-cultural activities rising regional cognisance of Lower Silesians. The main part of the analisis contains a wide spectrum of examples of identity-shaping activities implementing in Lower Silesia, mostly in the second decade of XXI century. These activities are characterized under three different identity-shaping strategies: strategy of development, exploration and transposition, which differ in the involved actors, aims and results of the operations, however remain dependent on each other and together form the contemporary regional identity. The last part of the work is dedicated to the effects of identity-shaping processes and contains characteristics of contemporary identity of Lower Silesia taking into account the positive and negative aspects, and with regard to the concepts of civil society and open regionalism.
