Women's video art beyond the category of gender. Overview of video works in the context of contemporary cultural studies.

Założeniem pracy dyplomowej jest przybliżenie sylwetek oraz twórczości artystek wideo, które w swoich pracach poruszają problemy niezwiązane z tematyką dyskursów gen derowych. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów, w których podejmuję się próby przybliżenia problemu. Stereotypowym jest podejście, że twórczość kobieca musi być feminizująca bądź dotyczyć tematyki genderowej. Poprzez twórczość czterech bardzo różnych artystek, wskazuję, że kobiety równie często sięgają do problematyki społecznej i kulturowej. Analizowane przeze mnie prace dotyczą przede wszystkim tematów związanych z kształtowaniem się tożsamości indywidualnej, funkcjonowania jednostki w społeczeństwach zglobalizowanych czy też pamięci kulturowej i jej konsekwencjach. W jednym z podrozdziałów opisuję także zabiegi formalne wykorzystywane przez artystki, by w sposób dobitny wyeksponować omawiany problem.

The aim of the thesis is to present profile and works of video artists, who in their films raise problems unrelated to the theme of gender discourse. The thesis comprises three chapters, in which I attempt to approximate the problem. Stereotypical attitudes on women's works are that it must contain feminist discourse or be related to gender.Through the work of four very different artists, I am indicating that women also often extend to the the social and cultural issues. I analyzed the video essays that mainly concern issues related to the evolution of the identity of an individual, functioning in globalized societies or cultural memory and its consequences. Also in one of the subsections I am describing the formal side of the videos, how a variety of technologies and cinematic techniques used by the artists can highlight the issue.
