The art of Henri Matisse and Kazimir Malevich and its relations to the icon painting

Celem pracy jest odniesienie się do istniejących w literaturze przedmiotu koncepcji dotyczących relacji zależnej między malarstwem Henriego Matisse’a i Kazimierza Malewicza a ruskim malarstwem ikonowym. W tym celu tezy i argumenty badaczy zestawiono z wnioskami wynikającymi z analizy formalnej, ikonograficznej i porównawczej obrazów obu malarzy oraz ich wypowiedziami ustnymi i pisemnymi w tej kwestii. Podstawowe pytania tej pracy dotyczą przede wszystkim stosunku twórczości plastycznej tych artystów do malarstwa ikonowego, a w następnej kolejności – specyfiki stawianych tez, ich podłoża teoretycznego i metodologicznego.

The purpose of this dissertation is to juxtapose the concepts of interdependacne between the art of Henry Matisse and Kazimir Malevich with the tradition of icon painting in Russia, which have been suggested in the subject literature. Due to that the arguments for the presence of such influences have been analized in comparisson to the conclusions deriving from the analisys of the form and iconography of the Matisse’s and Malevich’s paintings and of their commentaries on the matter. The research deals first and foremost with the reasonableness of the concepts in question, and moreover with their specific theoretical and methodological background.
