A study of the contemporary american horror cinema – James Wan’s ‘The Conjuring’ series analysis.

W niniejszej pracy autorka analizuje serię "Obecność" w reżyserii Jamesa Wana w kontekście współczesnego amerykańskiego horroru. Na podstawie różnorodnych źródeł analizujących ten obszar amerykańskiej kinematografii wyróżnia ona szereg cech, jakim odznaczają się produkcje gatunku w dzisiejszych czasach, a następnie każdy z tych elementów przekłada na omawianą serię. Autorka bierze pod uwagę ogólne cechy gatunku wynikające z obecnego w horrorze postmodernizmu, ale także zmiany, jakie zaszły w nim w po 9/11 czy też kryzysie ekonomicznym z 2008 roku. Praca kończy się zebraniem wniosków z całej pracy i odpowiedzią na pytanie, czy "Obecność" Jamesa Wana może być traktowana jako nowatorska produkcja w zderzeniu z większością współczesnych horrorów.

In this thesis paper, the author analyses "The Conjuring" series directed by James Wan in the context of contemporary American horror films. Basing upon various sources concerning this part of the American cinema, she distinguishes a set of characteristics of contemporary productions in the genre, which she then applies to the series in question. She takes into account some of the general feature of horror that can be considered postmodernist, but also the changes that the genre went through after 9/11 or the financial crisis of 2008. The paper ends with summing up conclusions made along the way and using them to answer the question if James Wan's "The Conjuring" can be treated as an innovative production as opposed to majority of contemporary horror films.
