It sparked a lot of controversy among event participants and internet users. The event organizers explained the situation by stating that it is a form of acrobatics recognized as a sport, which means that the outrage over the performance can be considered a misunderstanding. The main concern among the audience was the presence of children who should not be exposed to such performances.The aim of this paper is to analyze the meanings attributed to pole dance in the context of potential misunderstandings arising from a mistaken interpretation of this activity. The research focused on the meanings associated with pole dance practices, the circumstances in which potential misunderstandings may occur and the changes in these meanings in connection with the growing popularity of this discipline over the past decade.
