Zygmuntowskie czasy Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego as a historical novel

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie sposobu, w jaki Józef Ignacy Kraszewski skonstruował fabułę powieści "Zygmuntowskie czasy". W pracy tej wyjaśniam pojęcie powieści historycznej. Przedstawiam stosowane przez autora strategie kompozycyjne, a także zwracam uwagę na sposób narracji, na który się on zdecydował – czy całą opowieść przedstawia jeden wszechwiedzący narrator, czy takich opowiadaczy jest więcej, czy pojawia się narracja pierwszoosobowa. Omawiam wątek związany ze źródłami, z których Kraszewski czerpał inspiracje oraz które stanowiły krąg jego historycznych zainteresowań. Refleksje przedstawione w tej pracy zmierzają do ukazania, że Kraszewski zbudował fabułę powieści "Zygmuntowskie czasy" zarówno na zdarzeniach historycznych, jak i fikcyjnych. Główną postacią wątku historycznego jest Zygmunt August – ostatni z dynastii Jagiellonów na tronie Rzeczypospolitej. Natomiast główną postacią wątku fikcyjnego jest Staś Sołomerecki, samotnie podróżujący z Rusi do Krakowa, aby w ówczesnej stolicy Rzeczypospolitej podjąć naukę.

The aim of the thesis is to present the way in which Józef Ignacy Kraszewski constructed the plot of the novel "Zygmuntowskie czasy". In this thesis, I explain the concept of a historical novel. I present the compositional strategies used by the author and also pay attention to the narrative method he chose – whether the whole story is presented by one omniscient narrator, are there more such storytellers, or is there a first-person narrative. I discuss the topic related to the sources from which Kraszewski drew his inspiration and which constituted the circle of his historical interests. The reflections presented in this thesis lead up to show that Kraszewski built the plot of the novel "Zygmuntowskie czasy" both on historical and fictional events. The main figure in the historical thread is Zygmunt August – the last of the Jagiellonian dynasty on the throne of the Republic of Poland. Whereas, the main character of the fictional thread is Staś Sołomerecki, who travels alone from Ruś to Kraków to study in the then capital of the Republic of Poland.
