The identity discovered in America. Dichter Wilhelm’s Learning English as literary autobiography.

Praca przedstawia ogólny obraz emigracji pisarzy żydowskich polskiego pochodzenia do Stanów Zjednoczonych po wydarzeniach marca 1968 roku. Szczegółowo omówiony został utwór Wilhelma Dichtera „Lekcja angielskiego”. Asymilacja autora w USA była związana z konfrontacją wydarzeń z przeszłości, doświadczeń Holocaustu, komunizmu z sytuacją emigranta. Utwór pisany z perspektywy lat, zawierający elementy autobiograficzne i literackie, pozwolił autorowi pogodzić się z przeszłością oraz umożliwił odkrycie własnej tożsamości. Dichter określił się w trzech wymiarach, jako Polak, Żyd i Amerykanin.Celem pracy była interpretacja utworu Wilhelma Dichtera „Lekcja angielskiego”, przedstawienie losów autora na emigracji, kolejnych etapów jego asymilacji w Ameryce oraz prób zrozumienia własnego „ja” w perspektywie przeszłości i teraźniejszości, poprzez dystans narracji autobiograficznej.

The thesis presents an overview picture of Jewish writers Polish descent emigration to the United States after the events of March 1968.Work has been discussed in detail Wilhelm Dichter’s “Learning English”. Author’s assimilation in the U.S.A. was associated with a confrontation the events of the past, experiences of the Holocaust, communism with the situation of emigration. The written from the perspective of years, including autobiographical and literary elements, allowed the author to come to terms with the past and has allowed the discovery of his own identity. Dichter described in three dimensions, as a Pole, a Jew and an American.The aim of this thesis was to interpretation of the work Wilhelm Dichter’s “Learning English”, showing author’s fortunes in exile, successive stages of his assimilation in America and attempts to understand his own "I" in view of the past and present through autobiographical narrative distance.
