Archaization in translation - analysis of Japanese translation of Stanisław Lem's "The eleventh voyage"

Celem niniejszej pracy jest opisanie problematyki przekładu polskich archaizmów występujących w zawartym w zbiorze „Dzienniki Gwiazdowe" opowiadaniu Stanisława Lema pt. „Podróż jedenasta". W dwóch pierwszych rozdziałach autorka, bazując na pracach m.in Hejwowskiego i Newmarka, omówi główne zagadnienia dotyczące teorii przekładu, np. opis procesu tłumaczenia, roli tłumacza w przekładzie oraz technik i błędów tłumaczeniowych. W skrócie omówiona zostanie również japońska tradycja przekładu, problemy, na które może natrafić tłumacz podczas pracy z utworami Lema oraz specyfika stylizacji archaicznej. W ostatnim rozdziale przeprowadzona zostanie analiza porównawcza fragmentów „Podróży jedenastej" i jej japońskiego przekładu pod względem użytych form archaizmów oraz metod ich tłumaczenia.

The main purpose of this thesis is to describe problems of translation of Polish archaisms in short story "The eleventh voyage" by Stanisław Lem, which is included in collection of his short stories called "The Star Diaries". In first two chapters the author presents the main problems of theory of translation basing on Hejwowski’s and Newmark’s works, e.g. description of process of translation, translator’s role and translation methods and mistakes. History of Japanese translation tradition, problems that translators can face when dealing with Lem’s stories and characteristics of archaization are also mentioned. In the last chapter the author analyses and compares fragments of "The eleventh voyage" with Japanese translation in terms of archaisms forms and its methods of translation.
