The subject of this paper is the use of game-based learning methods to teach competences in reading, information, and media to the Polish public and academic library users. The aim is to analyze the current state of research and select best practice examples that can serve as inspiration for further action. The literature was critically analyzed and benchmarking was used to select examples of good practices. The use of game-based learning methods in libraries was established on the basis of a search of the Polish National Library databases, abstract databases such as BABIN and LISTA, and international databases for the period of 2010-2015. Subsequently, a systematic overview of network resources was conducted in the search for examples of good practice in using gaming to develop reading, information and media competences. As a result of analyzes carried out with regard to relevant subject literature and examples of good practices an original model for the use of game elements in education oflibraries users was proposed.pl
