Incoherence elimination as belief update

W niniejszej pracy definiuję pojęcia spójnej oraz niespójnej funkcji przekonaniowej i proponuję epistemiczną normę “Dążenia do spójności”, wedle której racjonalny agent poznawczy natychmiast po zauważeniu, że jego przekonania są niespójne, powinien je uspójnić. Przedstawiam propozycję potraktowania uspójniania jako szczególnego przypadku aktualizacji i opisuję dwie metody uspójniania przekonań, wywiedzione z odpowiadających im metod aktualizacji: rozszerzone warunkowanie bayesowskie i rozszerzone obrazowanie. Centralnym rezultatem pracy są twierdzenia mówiące, że obydwie wspomniane metody uspójniania redukują się do swoich klasycznych odpowiedników, gdy jako argument przyjmują funkcję spójną, oraz że rezultatem ich zastosowania zawsze będzie funkcja spójna.

In this thesis I define the notions of coherent and incoherent credence function and propose an epistemic norm of "Striving towards coherence", according to which a rational cognitive agent, after realizing that her credences are incoherent, should coherentize them immediately. I introduce a view that coherentizing can be seen as a special case of update and I describe two possible methods of belief coherentizing, derived from corresponding methods of update: extended bayesian conditionalization and extended imaging. The central result of this thesis are the theorems that state, that both of the coherentizing methods mentioned boil down to their classical counterparts if provided a coherent function as an argument, and that the result of applying them is always a coherent function.
