Literary portrait of Emma Bovary. The art of portrait in French literature.

Niniejsza praca magisterska porusza temat sztuki portretu w literaturze francuskiej, opierając się na przykładzie portretu literackiego Emmy Bovary. Ma ona na celu ujęcie, wyjaśnienie i analizę kobiecego portretu, stworzonego przez Gustawa Flauberta. Portret literacki jest opisem, psychologicznym i fizycznym postaci, który współistnieje i współdziała z narracją. Ponadto, zamysłem tej pracy jest ukazanie, że portret literacki funkcjonuje w opowiadaniu. Jest możliwe opisywać opowiadając: portret literacki kobiety u Flauberta jest stworzony precyzyjnie i w najmniejszych detalach. Praca magisterska składa się z dwóch rozdziałów: teoretycznego i analitycznego. W pierwszym rozdziale teoretycznym, skupiono się na sztuce portretu, prezentując w ten sposób wzajemną relację sztuk. Jest to refleksja teoretyczna nad literaturą i malarstwem, wyjaśniono pojęcie portretu malarskiego i literackiego, przedstawiono historię portretu w malarstwie oraz w literaturze. Następnie, opisano funkcje portretu literackiego i postaci. Część teoretyczna pracy pozwoliła przejść do drugiego rozdziału, do analizy portretu literackiego, która opiera się na tekście arcydzieła światowej literatury: „Pani Bovary. Obyczaje prowincji.” Gustawa Flauberta. W ten sposób odkryto i zbadano portret literacki Emmy Bovary. Konkluzja opiera się na rezultatach analizy drugiego rozdziału oraz na krytyce badaczy literackich.

This master thesis brings up a subject of the art of portrait in the French literature, based on literary figure of Emma Bovary. The aim of it is to express, clarify and analyze the feminine portrait created by Gustav Flaubert. This literary portrait is a psychological and physical description which coexists and cooperates with narration. The purpose of this thesis is to show that the literary portrait exists in a story (narration). It is possible to describe by telling stories: the Flaubert’s literary portrait of woman is very precise and goes into details. This thesis consist of two chapters. Focus of the first, theoretical chapter is on the art of portrait, explaining relations between literature and painting It is in fact theoretical cogitation about literature and painting, historical description of portrait in art followed by its function and function of figure itself. This theoretical base leads to the second chapter, to analysis of the literary portrait which is based on Gustave Flaubert’s masterpiece novel “Madame Bovary”. Thereby the literary portrait of Emma Bovary is discovered and investigated. The conclusion is based on the outcomes of analysis of the second chapter and on criticism of the literature researchers.

Ce mémoire de maîtrise aborde le sujet de l’art du portrait dans les lettres françaises, en s’appuyant sur l’exemple du portrait littéraire d’Emma Bovary. Il a pour le but de présenter, d’expliquer et d’analyser le portrait féminin élaboré par Gustave Flaubert. Le portrait littéraire est une description, physique et morale, qui coexiste et coopère avec le discours narratif. Ce mémoire de maîtrise tend ainsi à démontrer qu'il est possible de décrire en racontant : le portrait littéraire de la femme chez Flaubert est créé précisément et dans les moindres détails. Le mémoire de maîtrise est divisé en deux parties.Dans le premier chapitre, on se concentre sur la partie théorique concernant l’art du portrait, on présente ainsi la correspondance des arts, c’est-à-dire la réflexion théorique sur la littérature et la peinture, on explique la notion de portrait pictural et littéraire, on présente l’histoire du portrait en peinture et en littérature. Et puis, on décrit les fonctions du portrait littéraire et du personnage.Cette étude théorique permet de passer au deuxième chapitre analytique. L’analyse est fondée sur le texte du chef-d’oeuvre « Madame Bovary. Moeurs de province » de Gustave Flaubert. De cette façon, on découvre et on analyse le portrait littéraire d’Emma Bovary.La conclusion s’appuie sur les résultats de l’analyse et sur les études des chercheurs littéraires.
