June Democratic Struggle and social movements in pursuit of democratization of the Republic of Korea.

Korea Południowa przez wiele lat walczyła o niepodległość, a później o demokrację. Przez lata ruchy społeczne wywierały wpływ na rządy starając się wywalczyć lepsze prawa dla siebie i następnych pokoleń. Wszystko to ostatecznie przełożyło się na Czerwcowy Ruch Demokratyczny, który rozpoczął się 10 czerwca 1987 i trwał dziewiętnaście dni. Niewątpliwie, był to przełomowy moment w historii tego kraju, ponieważ bezpośrednio przyczynił się do zmiany ustroju co autorka stara się udowodnić w niniejszej pracy.Podczas demonstracji protestowano przeciwko skorumpowanej władzy, brutalności policji oraz rządom autorytarnym. Domagano się zwiększenia swobód obywatelskich oraz bezpośrednich wyborów prezydenckich, które ostatecznie zakończyłyby dziesięciolecia władzy wojskowej w kraju. Przez działania obywateli w ostateczności rząd poddał się i 29 czerwca ogłoszono deklarację, która przystała na wszystkie żądania protestujących obiecując zmiany w konstytucji. Tym samym doprowadzono do bezpośrednich wyborów prezydenckich, które odbyły się w grudniu 1987 roku.Niniejsza praca opisuje wydarzenia, które doprowadziły pośrednio oraz bezpośrednio do Czerwcowego Ruchu Demokratycznego a także analizuje znaczenie tego ruchu w świetle niedawnych wydarzeń mających miejsce w Republice Korei.

South Korea for many years fought for its independence and later for democracy. Over the years, social movements were trying to win better rights for themselves and future generation by influencing governments for a change. All these movements and actions ultimately resulted in June Democratic Movement. It began on June 10, 1987 and lasted for nineteen days. Undoubtedly, it was a breakthrough event in the history of this country, because it directly contributed to the change of the political system which the author will try to prove in this thesis.During this demonstration protesters fought against corrupt authorities, police brutality and authoritarian rule. They demanded increase in civil liberties and direct presidential election which could finally end decades of military rule in the country. Due to the citizens' actions, the government eventually gave in and on June 29, a declaration was signed that agreed to all demands and decided on changes in the constitution, thus leading to direct presidental elections in December 1987.In this thesis the author describes the events that led directly and indirectly to the June Democratic Movement and examines the significance of this movement in light of recent events taking place in the Republic of Korea.
