Mechanizmy prymowania semantycznego

Celem pracy jest analiza teorii i procesów leżących u podłoża primingu semantycznego – odmiany torowania, gdzie przetwarzanie bodźca jest lepsze przy wcześniejszej prezentacji prymy powiązanej semantycznie z bodźcem testowym. Omówione zostają różne typy powiązań między prymą a bodźcem oraz neurobiologiczne korelaty prymowania, a także najpopularniejsze teorie próbujące wyjaśnić priming – modele rozchodzącego się pobudzenia Collins i Loftus oraz Andersona, modele sieci rozproszonych – uczenia się i bliskości, oraz hybrydowy model Neely'ego i Keefe'go. Zwrócona zostaje uwaga na procesy automatyczne i strategiczne biorące udział w torowaniu. Przywołując najnowsze wyniki badań, poparta zostaje teza, że nie są one rozłączne i dyskretne, a powiązane i zależne; dodatkowo pokazane zostaje, że tradycyjne ich rozróżnienia nie zgadzają się z wynikami eksperymentów, co podważa dotychczasowe ich ujęcia.

The purpose of this paper is to critically analyze theories about the processes standing behind semantic priming – the kind of priming where processing of the stimulus is facilitated by earlier presentation of the prime that is semantically connected with the target. Different types of associations between prime and target are discussed as well as neurobiological corre-lates of priming. The most popular theories that attempt to explain priming are elaborated on. These include spreading activation models of Collins and Loftus and of Anderson, distributed networks models, learning and proximity ones, and the hybrid model of Neely and Keefe. Automatic and strategic processes that participate in semantic priming are brought to attention. Having addressed the newest results of experiments, I support the thesis that those processes aren't discrete and separate but connected and dependent; moreover, it is shown that their traditional contradistinction isn't compatible with the results of the experiments, what undermines their previous conceptualization.
