Metaphor in Nowaday Historical Narrative Based on the Reviews on II World War

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie metaforyki narracji historycznej w tekstach odnoszących się do II wojny światowej. Metodą badawczą, zaproponowaną w niniejszej pracy jest kategoryzacja oraz interpretacja metafor według typów wyszczególnionych przez George'a Lakoffa i Marka Johnsona, a więc podział na metafory strukturalne, orientacyjne, ontologiczne. Badaniu zostały poddane polskie opracowania dotyczące II wojny światowej, wydane po 1989, zarówno pod kątem działań militarnych, co i sytuacji społecznej i politycznej wymienionego okresu. Głównym problemem badawczym było ustalenie roli, jaką metafory pełnią w ugruntowaniu myślenia o przeszłości i wytworzenia jej konkretnego, kulturowego obrazu.

The aim of the following paper is to underline (research) the metaphoric component of the historic narratives in the texts concerning the Secound World War. The method used to do it is the categorization and interpretation of the metaphors according to the types outlined by Lakoff and Johnson, which includes the division into the structural, orientation and ontological metaphors (types). The analysis was performed on the polish reviews on the Second World War, published after the year of 1989, both towards the military actions as well as social and political situation of the given period. The main theme for the analysis was to examine a role, the metaphor plays in establishing the ways one thinks about the past and creates its cultural image or a vision.
